Guest guest
I have a 4 year old son who has never received an immunization shot. Now we are approaching school age and, as you can imagine, this is becoming a real issue. We are a Pagan family living in Florida and my question is - is there an alternative to my consenting to the immunizations in order for my child to attend school? I believe that the current immunization program we have is insane, and want no part of it. But I also want my child to be able to attend school. It makes me furious that I have to allow the govt to poison my child in order to get him into school. Any advice Doc? Wendy

Guest guest
I'm not Doc of course but here in Texas the immunization laws are ridiculous. They actually sent my son home from school because he had missed an update booster when he turned 12. I couldn't get him in for the shot for 3 days so he missed 4 days total - just plain wrong! I've also encountered problems when I transferred from community college to the university. They wanted my shot record. I'm 36 yrs old for crying out loud I have no idea where that would be! Both of my parents are deceased and I do not have any of the records - so rather than going through all those shots which I feel honestly cause more harm than good, I went to my church(non- denominational) and asked if they would write a letter for the university stating my personal religious beliefs would keep me from having immunizations. They did it without asking questions because the church is non-denominational. Maybe you could have your sons pediatrician write a letter but seriously I doubt the school would accept the fact that you just don't think shots are necessary for your son. You may have to go the religious route if Florida is as harsh as Texas about shots. It's crazy I know. I did feel bad 'lying' about the religious thing but if I would have brought a letter from a doctor saying " She thinks immunizations cause more harm than good and refuses to get them " I wouldn't have been able to finish my education so it was a decision I had to make and deal with. I wish you the best with this, stick with your beliefs! Tori
Guest guest
Dear Wendy, There are religious exemptions, and this can be used as an excuse not to immunize. You have to be tough with this and take a very firm stance or they'll bully you. Make mention of the fact that you've already checked with your attorney and know your legal rights on this, and that you don't want to hear any bull on the subject. Put a gleam in your eye so that they might think you're capable of mayhem and you'll get your way. LOL This will be your chance to be an actress so enjoy the gig and let us know how your performance turns out. ;-) In Health, Freedom, and Love, Doc PS. If you can't win them with logic, baffle them with bull sh.. ;-) Doc Shillington727-447-5282Doc - Wendy herbal remedies Wednesday, July 05, 2006 7:32 AM Herbal Remedies - Question for Doc - Immunizations I have a 4 year old son who has never received an immunization shot. Guest guest
Tori,Was this many years ago? Within the last 4-5 years or so, the laws have changed in Texas. You no longer have to have a religious exemption. You just have to register with PROVE. http://www.vaccineinfo.net/ But of course, it's still a big hassle jumping through the hoops for the school (I've heard.) I've heard that they will " lose " your paperwork, so you need to keep extra copies, etc. I have over a year before I send my son to school, so I won't have to deal with it until then (unless we do preschool - only because HE wants to, not me... he's quite the little social butterfly.) I'll supplement his education at home. jillOn 7/5/06, Tori <vcotten wrote: I'm not Doc of course but here in Texas the immunization laws are ridiculous. Guest guest
About the lying-- think about it, isn't it against your religion (whether or not you believe in God isn't relavent) to hurt your children? Isn't it against your religion to injest poisons at someone elses whim? If religion is a set of personal moral beliefs, I would say those are against pretty much everyones religion. Guest guest
Well, my sons incident happened in 6th grade so almost 3 yrs ago and mine was in 2001. I'm glad to see the laws have changed! I have an 8 yr old who will be requiring boosters so I'm going to register and do the paperwork. Thanks for the link! Tori
