Guest guest
With every pregnancy I have the mosquitos put me on radar. I itch so bad that Im starting to look like a leper! My midwife with my first pregnancy told me it was because they can smell the pregnancy hormone that causes the extra blood production. Is there something I can use to keep the mosquitos away that wont adversly effect the baby if absorbed into my blood stream? I just read an article about catnip being more effective than the DEET. Would someone happen to have a recipe to use? ANY help or info would be GREATLY appreciatied. TIA --Jamie
Guest guest
Hi, Catnip is good for mosquitos and so is citronella. The combination of the two makes for a very effective repellant. A touch of thyme is great also, to help with the itchiness. HOWEVER, You must check to see that these are ok to use during pregnancy. I'm not at home so I can't check off hand. Maybe Doc could chime in? By the way it's not an unpleasant scent but not the greatest either. I usually add a bit of lemon eo to offset the scent. It has been described to me as smelling like a really good thai resturant. Pam On 7/4/06, dontfencemein1979 <dontfencemein1979 wrote: > With every pregnancy I have the mosquitos put me on radar. Guest guest
Jamie, Check the health food stores for what they carry. My husband is always bringing home different repellants. The last one he bought is made from eucalyptus & lemon - works good and doesn't smell horrid like some of them do. Sorry, I can't tell you any more - the bottle has been misplaced. Check labels for safety during pregnangy. Vicki herbal remedies , " dontfencemein1979 " <dontfencemein1979 wrote: > > With every pregnancy I have the mosquitos put me on radar. Guest guest
Dear Jamie, Vitamin B-Complex deficiency causes this. The Vitamin B in the Nutritional Yeast and the Spirulina in the Total Nutrition would handle this lack in your body's makeup. Guest guest
As long as these are used externally, there should be no problem with using them while preggers. My favorite is an old recipe invented by my Grandfather up in the muskeg regions in Northern Ontario Canada. Up there they have mosquitos the size of elephants, and horse flies, deer flies, no see-ums, and the deadly Black Fly. Sooooo, this remedy has been tested on the best. ;-) 1. 60% Castor Oil 2. 35% Citronella Oil 3. 5% Camphor Oil Mix 'em all together and store in a brown glass bottle away from sunlight. Doesn't smell too bad unless it's a hot summer day and you really start to sweat. It can get a little intense under those circumstances, buttttttt it will keep the squeeters away. Guest guest
lavander essential oil, neet. A little dab on your clothes, I do back of shirt and socks. keeps bugs away. Same is also good for the bug bites. How low will we go? Check out Messenger’s low PC-to-Phone call rates.
