Guest guest
What would you suggest for fleas? I've just noticed that our dogs have fleas. There arent many, but I want to take care of them now. Also, what about ear infections in dogs? What would you suggest for that. Thank you and I've learned so much from this list. Sandy

My dog had a lot of bad skin lesions where she had bit herself scratching. After a week, all of this has cleared up because tea is a natural healer. I spray her every other day to keep the fleas at bay. Edith
Guest guest
I feed both my dogs a diet made up of mostly raw meat and bones and the fleas just don't seem interested in them....they also get garlic, which is supposed to keep the fleas at bay. A really good book to start with is: "Natural Nutrition for Dogs & Cats"...by Kymythy Schultze (The Ultimate Diet)...It's short and easy to read....also "Natural Immunity"...by Pat McKay is a really good read about vaccines. When placing pups, I give both books to their new guardians. Feel free to email me off list if I can help you further. Val
Guest guest
I got a great tip for the house. Take a container of IODIZED salt. Put them around. No more fleas. Took out a huge infestation in our basement just after we moved here. Ramona Quoting Sandy <nieman: > What would you suggest for fleas? I've just noticed that our dogs have > fleas. Guest guest
For all my animals I use Diatomaceous Earth. I was able to get it at a local chain store (Anderson's General Store). I use a feather duster and dust the dogs with it. In about 2 days all the fleas are gone. Usually I catch that they have them before they get too bad. Of course, they may come back as this isn't a repellant, just a flea (and other crawling insects) killer. For the bites, I use my homemade comfrey salve which contains tea tree oil and peppermint and aloe with olive oil and comfrey leaves. What is Diatomaceous Earth? excerpted: "It is a non-toxic, safe substance made up from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life. Crushed to a fine powder and observed through a microscope, the particles resemble bits of broken glass. Deadly to any insect and completely harmless to animals, fish, fowl or food. Most insects have a waxy outer shell covering their bodies, Diatomaceous Earth scratches through this shell causing the insect to dehydrate leading to eventual death. " http://www.hydromall.com/happy_grower16.html I don't have any suggestions for the ear infections. I think dogs have longer ear canals than we do so it's not as easy to just treat them with hydrogen peroxide solutions as they won't dry out properly.Michelle Sandy <nieman wrote: What would you suggest for fleas? Guest guest
Sorry to butt in but it should be specified to use Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth. Do not get the kind for your pool. I get the Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth at a feed/grain store . Also protect your animals and yourself from breathing the dust in while applying. If you have carpet you can sprinkle it on the carpet and work it down into the carpet fibers with a broom; wait two days until you vaccum. You can sprinkle outside also but will be rendered useless if it gets wet.
