Guest guest
HI! I thought I better give an introduction about myself: My name is Hania Trzaskowski, , and i'm a practising naturopath from Melbourne, Australia. I work in two practises, one in the centre of the city treating the corporate world, and one from my home office in Brunswick. I use many modalities, including aromatherapy, massage, nutrition, flower essences, but my most loved modality of all - is herbal medicine. I'm very 'eclectic' within my practice, using traditional knowledge and uses of the herb along with considering & acknowledging new research and new found uses for herbs. I live by myself in a gorgeous house with a fluffy cat, and most days, have my boyfriend Robert over here to help me clean up all the cat fluff from the furniture. I love travelling - anywhere - and hope to return to Peru soon, and also to visit the jungles of Borneo to see some of the most wonderful plants on this planet. ( world largest flowers/ florets, worlds largest leaves, orang utans with Durian fruit - it a dream for me!! ) My current thoughts about herbal medicine in Australia: Herbal Medicine has become quite the science in Australia, with strict restrictions about the usage and sales of herbal tinctures and extracts. (e.g. We are not allowed to use Comfrey internally). This does have some positive aspects to it however, such that a little regulation goes a long way in regards to making sure the quality of products reach certain standards, and that potentially harmful dosages of herbs are prescribed by practitioners only. Every herb has to be fully researched before you can start bringing it into the country (not only for safety, but for quarrantine as well as our eco sustem over here is very sensitive) - which means more research is done, however, once someone spends the money to get it on the safe list, anyone can bring it in and make money from it - so overall, it is very difficult to start introducing the people of Australia to new previously unused herbs. This is a particular gripe with me, as last year I did work experience at a phyto therapy centre in Peru. Many of the herbs are fantastic, but I cannot get them into the country. Not that they contain anything illegal, only because they are not 'on the list'. Hopefully, one day, the protocols will change, and I will be able to help some of the extract companies to import these herbs. Favorite herbs at the moment: At the moment these are my favorite herbs: Damiana - Turnera diffusa Dragon's blood (amazonian) - Croton draconoides Withania - Withania somnifera Elder flower - Sambuccus nigra Most used herbs: Withania, Damiana, Tumeric, Golden seal (cultivated), Oat seed, Vervain, Ginger,, Wood Betony, Devil's claw, Peony, Blue FLag, Rosemary, Silybym (St. Mary's Thistle), and so many more Bright smiles and vitality, Hania Hania Trzaskowski BHSci.Nat Chirinka Natural Therapies Muscle Management
Guest guest
Dear Hania, Welcome to Herbal Remedies. We take a slightly freer approach to herbal medicine than what it seems is being done in Australia at the moment. We have to since the pharmaceuticals are a major threat to us at this time. We are not into Standardization. We are not into regulation feeling that this leads to government intervention and eventual control by vested interest groups ie. your government's ban on Comfrey. This is abhorent to us and intolerable. No one has ever been hurt by Comfrey. Ever!!! Often, individuals treat our craft with too much reverence which leads to an esoteric approach. We have no interest in this group with such a viewpoint. There are NO secrets, or hidden mysteries in this art. I personally no of no one who has been hurt by any herb. None! The only "hurt" I've ever seen is by a person doing too little, and I've personally dealt with thousands of cases. My mentor, Dr. John Christopher, handled hundreds of thousands of patients and never once hurt anyone with herbs and this is dealing dosages that would make a Medico cringe.
