I had been taking a prescription for anxiety and depression which caused many side effects for me like weight gain, sexual problems, weird dreams, fatigue, short term memory loss, and so many more. The SJW was great for me. It really helped with my depression and anxiety without horrible side effects. The only thing for me was a slight headache which wasn't bothersome enough for me to stop using SJW. I was very happy with it overall. I also used essential oils and Bach remedies during some of the harder times. I read some books about SJW, and other natural depression helpers, maybe you can find them at your library or bookstore. ***St. John's Wort Nature's Blues Buster - Hyla Cass ***Dealing With Depression Naturally - Syd Baumel ***Stop Depression Now - Richard Brown, Teodoro Bottiglieri and Carol Colman (This one talks about SAM-e and is very good) Hope this helps you some. I'm not an expert nor did I consult with an ND, I researched and experimented on my own. Take Care, Tori
Guest guest
I've used St Johns wort on and off for about a year now. I get slight dry mouth on it, and sometimes a little more prone to stuffy nose, but nothing major. It can make you more sensitive to UV exposure, so you should cover up or wear sunscreen. I haven't had any other problems with it. DO NOT TAKE IT WITH prozac or other SSRI anti-depressants without talking to your doc/naturalist though. the combo can potentially cause long term neural damage from messing with the neural receptors. My understanding is that it hurries your hormones along... (which would make the pill not as effective) my hormonal teenager began taking SJW and has also found some relief. I think my hormones have been upset since I got pregnant in the early 90's. Now that I am off " the pill " (and all other pharms)eating organic and using herbs...i feel MUCH better. Just my personal experience. peace robyn
