Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I can't remember the lady's name, from Florida, that said she checked into becoming a Naturopathic Doctor and tried to find out the licensing information. Can you give me an idea as to where I can find the information about this for my state? I would like to see if there are any alternative health or natural health certificates and licensings that can be earned here in Florida. Thanks in advance for your help! Guest guest
From what I understand, they are not issuing any new Naturopathic Doctor licenses in Florida. Actually, in the states that have licensure for ND's (I believe there are 12 of them now) you have to be a graduate of one of only six approved college programs in North America to even qualify to take the licensing exam. Those programs are all for people who basically want to be MD's, judging from the curriculum. They involve things like learning minor surgery, involve x-rays and some pharmaceuticals. Last I knew, this was not what I would consider Naturopathy! And if you take any courses in traditional naturopathy leading to an ND degree, you can't often use the designation ND in your practice. I know this since I am in the same boat as you, trying to find out different options to be able to practice naturopathy once I've found the program I feel is best. Of course, if I can't practice what I've learned, the education is not of much use, except to family and friends. Perhaps what has to be done is to have specific credentials differentiating Naturopathic Medicine (medico-oriented) and Traditional Naturopathy (what we are learning here).
