Hello Erin,

Welcome aboard. its great to have you here!

What a wonderful gift of goodies from your cousin, but I'll warn you -

she has given you the supplies that will start a lifetime of addicting

hobbies - and we'll gladly help steer you down that road *lol*

Please don't hesitate to make yourself comfortable, jump right into

conversations, and not be afraid to ask questions (and ever answer a few

too).

Hello Everyone,

I figured since I've been lurking here for a few weeks, I'd better

introduce

myself. My name is Erin and I'm in Austin,Tx. I've always been

interested in

making lotions, soaps, and stuff like that, but I've never actually done

it

yet. I'm looking forward to learning anything and everything I possibly

can

from this group. I've already learned quiet a lot. My cousin used to

make

beauty products with EOs but she doesn't have the time to do that now

and is

giving me around $3000 worth of EOs, molds, ect...so I'll prob. have

plenty

of questions for the group here pretty soon. I'm so excited!!

> fibromyalgia (or so I've read)

You are absolutely correct on that assumption. I have fibromyalgia.

We tend to have tender spots - some may call them trigger points. I know from

experience that you may not even realize until you have pushed against something

or hit a spot, that it is tender. And it can set off pain or a flare if it is

manipulated. I shy away from anyone massaging any part of my body for that

reason.

Sometimes I will have an itch on my back and if I can I will reach back to

scratch it. I also have a delayed reaction to the pain. It will usually take

about 3-5 seconds for it to start - and then it might feel like someone stabbed

me in the back with a knife - all because I scratched an itch. for me the

pressure you would use to scatch an itch would cause terrible pain for me in the

right spot.

With as nasty as my Fibro can be, it is hard for me to fathom that someone else

with Fibro could stand a deep massage.

What might be helpful is a light touch on the direction that the muscle extends

- length wise up or down the muscle, being careful when you get closer to the

point where the muscle attaches to the body ad this is where trigger points can

be. Also there is an Essential Oil that helps with pain that can be used in the

massage oils for Fibro patients called Plai. Here is some info on it:

http://www.essentialoils.org/plai.htm

Hope this helps

Hi Jewel,

Welcome to the group. I am impressed with all you are studying as

my massage therapist also uses multiple techniques and it is

wonderful.

I have a not so good lower back. In 1976 I had L4 and L5 cut

out...ouch, but it was the best thing at that time as I could not

walk or stand.

Over the years, 53 of them as of last week, I have put on some

pounds and not kept in the best of shape and sometimes my back goes

out. About ten years ago a massage therapist I was working with use

a mixture of peppermint EO and a carrier oil on my lower back and

then covered the area with hot towels. I went from super hot to

super cold. She repeated this two times and when the treatment was

completed I felt much better. Now whenever I have a problem with my

back from too much whatever, I use this technique and find I get

great relief.

Other Oils I have used for Back Pain are: Helichrysum, (Helichrysum

italicum); Basil, (Ocimum basilicum)Methyl Chavicol Type; Vetiver,

(Vetiveria zizanoides).

I also practic Healing Touch and I know of a wonderful certified HT

practictioner in your area. She is very good and also works on

animals. Let me know if you are interested in an introduction.

I do not know of a store in the DC area, but you are always welcome

to stop by our web site at http://www.ancienthealingoils.com Also

just as a point of interest, there is a Natural Products Expo this

weekend in Baltimore.

All the best.

Sorry to take so long to reply, by my hosting service went down yesterday and I

had not email for a while. Then I had to reactivate my email - boy what a

mess. Anyway........

I really wish I had THE answer for that, but as you already know, what helps you

may not help me or the next person. And for me, I am still trying to find my

answer on that.

But I can tell you of some things, that although temporary, help for a bit. But

before going into that, you need to do the following things:

1. If your thyroid has not been checked - go have it check to see if it is

underactive.

2. If it has been checked, did they check it against the new standards? Using

the new standard actually raised my medication to almost double and although I

still have those tiring moments, it is not as bad as it was.

If this is not an issue, then here are some things I do:

Make one of your soaps with a fragrance or EO that soothes you, so that every

time you bath, you can totally relax (mine is goatsmilk soap with sweet pea).

The warm-hot water will help but is short lived.

Learn proper breathing techniques, abdominal breathing. If you are like me when

you are in pain, I tend to breath quick and shallow. Here are sites that

describe it:

https://www.amsa.org/healingthehealer/breathing.cfm

http://www.coedu.usf.edu/zalaquett/Help_Screens/breath.htm

I checked you site and you have aroma therapy soaps. I bet that Rosemary Mint is

wonderful. If this smell invigorates you (if not find one that does), get a

small vial and put a few drops of the oil or oil combo in it and carry it with

you where ever you go. Whenever you fell sluggish, take a whiff from the vial -

kind of like smelling salts.

I have also been using some infused oils that have been helping a little -

Helichrysum and St. John's wort.

I hope this helps. I enjoyed putting this down on paper as it has helped me to

realize all that I have learned and that I still need to learn a whole lot more.

On the subject of Young Living you can check both www.aromaticsage.com

and www.quackwatch.org. Both have the information you're looking for.

There's also a white paper on the Raindrop Therapy technique but I've

lost the URL--you could probably find it by using Google.

Welcome and HTH,

Cindy, when I do the oven process I do it just like CP except after I put it in

my mold, I put it in the oven at it lowest temp for 1 hr. I know that some put

it in there for 2 hr and I have done that before also.

Crock pot I will let someone else talk about it as I have only done that a

couple of times and ended up with a real mess one time when I was not watching

as close as I should have and it volcanoed real bad, thank goodness the crock

pot was setting in the sink or I would have had a real mess. But, that can

happen to any method it you are not careful you can have a mess.
