Guest guest
IAHF List- When I was walking the floor at the Arnold vitamin trade show someone at a booth showed me a CNN article on his Blackberry that said McCain had " withdrawn " S.3002. Then I saw this Wall Street Journal article which said the same thing: McCain Move Bolsters Vitamin Makers 3/8/2010 6:48:00 PM NEW YORK & shy; A few publicly traded companies in the dietary supplement space saw stock prices rise on Monday, after Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) withdrew his support of the Dietary Supplement Safety Act, Dow Jones reported on _The Wall Street Journal_ (http://online.wsj.com/) . McCain’s bill would have made major regulatory overhauls to the current federal oversight of the dietary supplement industry. “It looks like it will be an easier world to be in the dietary supplement business,†Avondale analyst Bret Jordan told Dow Jones’ Shara Tibken. “The bill would have significantly tightened regulatory requirements.†Tibken reported Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. (NUS) and Medifast Inc. (MED) were both up; however, Herbalife Ltd. (HLF) and Usana Health Sciences (USNA) were slightly down, which led Wedbush Morgan analyst Rommel Dionisio to comment to Tibken, “It’s not really affecting anybody else, and that’s news that would lift them all. There are companies with much greater exposure to the U.S. business than Nu Skin.†Turns out these articles were not correct. _In this letter from Senator Hatch to Senator McCain_ (http://www.crnusa.org/DSSAFacts/hatch_mccain_s3002_letter.pdf) we see that McCain has agreed to make changes to S.3002 that Hatch wants, but we haven't been able to see what those are yet, and we also see that the bill has not been listed as having been " withdrawn " on the _Thomas Legislative Database_ (http://thomas.loc.gov/) so unfortunately, I was premature in proclaiming victory- more pressure is needed to get the bill withdrawn entirely! Please go _here_ (http://www.lef.org/lac/) to continue flooding the Senate with form letters against this bill. Also call your Senators office via the Capital Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and especially call McCain's office. Tell him you're supporting his opponent _JD Hayworth_ (http://www.jdforsenate.gov/) due to McCain's stance against dietary supplement consumers on this issue. Tell him you want the bill withdrawn entirely and immediately since the FDA already has ample power under the anabolic control acts to remove any illegal synthetic steroids from the market, its not necessary to gut the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 in order to protect consumers from illegal steroids, all thats necessary is for the FDA to do their job!
