Guest guest
Forwarded... From Rob, in advance of a more official type " press " release, Well I'm almost finished moving into my new old house, Old Yeller Part Deux. Have to give the place a name after all. So far in all my travels this is the best MCS safe for me house I've found. My closest neighbor is over 120 feet away, so dryer vents are not a problem. Did have a bit of an issue with somebody's cow the other night, she was on the other side of the hedge bellowing like crazy. All I could think of was some kid saying; Mom can we keep it? Just before I went offline to move there were some issues with the radio and I'd pretty much decided to shut it down. While I was away the web design people added a donate link to the site to try and keep it going and some people responded. So DTOX Radio is still online for now. Being offline for a while gave me time to think about the future of the radio and raising awareness in general. I'm sure we could all think of some great, hard working people who have tried to raise awareness of MCS and our situations in general over the years. But as they say on Monty Python, it's time for something completely different. As I was eluding too in a post a week or so ago, the accident I and my coworkers were in is very political and I've had to learn more about politics then I ever wanted to know. The most important thing I've learned is that the old adage: The squeaky wheel gets the grease is very true. Our biggest problem, and with that I mean all of us with an environmental illness along with my own personal situation is that no news organization will let us squeak. What that means is that those within the political " system " don't have to pay any attention to us as individuals or a group. I have also spent quite a bit of time dealing with and learning about the main stream media with our story. A thousand people being exposed to chemicals at my old job, close to fifty disabled because of it so far and now children being born with birth defects, I think is worthy of a news story. But as it was a policy produced under a Liberal government, ignored under a Conservative government that caused this accident, along with the rumor that the president of the company is the son-in-law of the richest man in western Canada, means that no news organization will touch us with a ten foot pole. They'll lose money and or support if they do, tells me a lot about the integrity of these organizations. So I started DTOX. We're already broke and don't have any support anyways, so why not make some noise? It took me a while, but I've figured out that while writing a letter to the editor or politician is good, putting a voice to those concerns is much more significant. It makes the situation personal and puts fear in the hearts of politicians everywhere when they " hear " someone saying they asked for help and were ignored. Especially with the chance more than one person could say the same thing. I'd like to open up the radio for a while to see what happens. I've opened an account on Skype if anyone wants to talk and be recorded, my address is therobnetwork. The idea with this is to record MCS'ers with this and put them on the radio. There are rules to this though, it's important to keep everything credible so no rants allowed. I'd really like to hear from those who have been dealing with MCS for a while. I'm looking for life after MCS stories etc. the idea behind this is twofold. One to let MCS'ers of the world know they are not alone and to let the politicians of the world know these MCS'ers are not alone. I was surprised to finally figure out that there are more people with an environmental illness in Canada then who voted for the Green Party in the last election. That makes us the largest political force for change that I know of that no one has ever heard of. I'm trying to find a way to change that and I'm wide open to suggestions. I was thinking of how to create a letter/phone call campaign and keep an online score card of how who responded. But I'm not quite sure how to arrange that yet. Voting is a right, responsibility and privilege for anyone of age. In my eyes you can belong to whichever political party you want to so I'm not trying to push anyone in any particular direction. What I'm thinking of here is to find a way to lay out the parties and show which one is willing to respond to our needs. My thoughts are that if we can make these political types realize what a large group of voters we are, and these people could win or lose an election based solely on our vote. It will help raise awareness of our situations along with the fact that if they don't pay attention to us, they'll be out of a job. Anyways, this is getting very long. DTOX Radio is still online and I'll have more programs uploaded and a proper schedule on the site by the end of the week.
