It's like a bad dream. This time we didn't evacuate. When hurricane Frances came through, I took the 3 kids and 3 cats and drove 13 1/2 hours to an area just north of Atlanta, GA. It doesn't normally take more than 8 hours to make the trip, but the traffic was unbelievable! That was only 3 weeks ago and I'm not ready to leave DH again. We are going to stick it out here despite our failed efforts to get a generator. They aren't available anywhere. The house is all boarded up again and we're stocked up on canned foods and such. We have plenty of flashlights, batteries and candles. The scary part is - we're starting to get good at this... First of all, Happy Birthday!! I live in Central Florida also and just came back from Marietta, GA on Sept. 15th. I remember the drive to GA, it took about 14-15 hours to get where I was going. It was me and 4 cats, they did not appreciate it, but we all made it there and back. The thing that gets me is the gas prices from Ga to FL, so much higher here. It was bumper to bumper and once I got to I75, it didn't get a whole lot better. I am getting tired of this and it looks like we are going to hang in there too. Yes, we all are getting good at this and I don't want to. LOL We are stocked up on water, made some ice and ice chunks. Canned goods are here and have sterno to cook in the fire place. Camping, such fun. The cost in batteries are amazing. At least finding gas was not a major ordeal. We called the police dept and asked them. They directed us on where to go. Well, I am praying for the best for everyone out here. You are all in my thoughts. Take care and be safe! Janice When I find myself fading, I close my eyes and realize my friends are my energy.
