>>>>With all the processed food that is causing cancer and other terrible

things and our children having to take these shots, not to mention the air

It is awful scary actually! I live in a small town that is still governed

by a City Manager. This means that none of the utilities are governed by

any *watchdog* types such as " The Corporation Commission " etc. Basically,

the " good ole' boys " get to do whatever they want. We have been getting

notices in with our water bill for the last several years telling us that

*oops, we've gone over EPA standards for safe drinking water because of

Halo Acetic Acids " . They go on to tell you that it really isn't THAT bad

of a thing, you needn't run out & buy bottled water etc. i started

researching it, and tho I don't totally understand it all, a wonderful

chemist turned attorney has explained it all to me :) Seems the Acids that

are there are because of HOW they treat the water to make it

drinkable......so basically, the City is putting this acid in our drinking

water for us! All of this got me more interested when 5 or so female

friends of mine came up with UTI's.....and it had been years since any of

us had had that problem. A friend of mine went in to her local pharmacist

and he told her since she had so many health problems, she should really

consider getting a water filter system. He told her that 1/2.....yep, 1/2

of his clients were women treating severe UTI's. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

As it turns out, while the Halo's won't directly give you UTI's, it does

suppress your immune system. Isn't that great? Here comes the punch

line......you can sue the City.....but you have to give them written

notice, and they have 60 days to comply, and if they do this, the suit is

dropped. Course, all I want is for them to fix the water! There is an

entire Senior Citizen's building down the street from me, and I happen to

know of a few ladies that live there. They had never seen a notice about

this......because they don't pay the water bill!!!! This attorney asked us

if we were using this water to cook with, and of course, prior to becoming

alarmed about it, we did. Bad idea.....seems the Halo acids, when heated,

will cause yet another chemical reaction. He told us that the only sure

way was to get a filter system hooked up directly at the

in-valve.......they only run around $800 :)

Here's another cute little story about our lovely government in this

city. The City decided to buy newer, highly functioning trash trucks. In

a nice letter they told us that this would save us all so much money in the

long run because they were automated, meaning less man hours, less work

comp etc etc. Yet, in that same letter, they raised trash rates for home

owners a few dollars per month....to I think $12.50/month. My shop trash

went from $12.50 to $25! When asked if we could have another company to

take our trash, we were told NO....we can't separate that in our billing

program. Sheesh, give me a break! LOL

Can you tell I don't particularly care for the city I live in? Before

anyone asks why we don't move.....hubby's father is all he has left for

family, and he just turned 76. He won't leave this area until his Dad is

gone. I need to call that attorney tomorrow :) I just love being a

squeaky wheel!

You go girl! I am sometimes the squeeky wheel. We live in the country don't

have water piped in but have a well. Our house is on a piece of land that was

farmed for years. I just hope the chemicals he used will come back to haunt us.

Hi Chris,

Yes it is scary. I remember when it was safe to play outside in your

neighborhood as a child. Can't do that now !

There are a lot of small towns that are like the one you live in. I happen to

be stuck in one too. Hopefully we will be able to sell our little ranch this

year and move. Our water company was so bad that it was taken over by the state

about 12 years ago. Since then it has been passed to this company or that

company ect.. We do not drink our water. We are lucky that we have ponds here

that stay full all year round so our horses have decent water to drink. In the

next town up they have something sort of like what you have. The electric

company pretty much runs everything. The electric, the water, the trash pick up

and the cable is all on one bill. I don't know if they are regulated or not

because I don't live in that town. But I can tell you the bills seem very high

for the service they get. When we first moved out here it was long distance to

call the local sheriffs . They are not the fastest guys to answer 911 calls.

Recently a situation came up where someone blocked our road leading out of this

little area and it took the sheriff's 5 hours to get around to coming out to see

what the problem was. lol Nice, huh ? Makes you feel safe to live out here ! lol

Hugs,

Sally
