Guest guest
Hi All: can anyone suggest any herbs/oils that are safe to use during pregnancy (14 weeks) she is having a terrible time with 'morning sickness' from time she gets up till around 2 and then at bedtime. I would like to make a blend of peppermint and fennel but am not sure if it would hurt more than help thanks sandi

Guest guest
I had horrible morning/ noon and night sickness for the first trimester with my first son. When I became pregnant the second time it seemed like it was going to be the same way, but I talked to my holistic doc and he suggested that it had something to do with the liver and to eat " liver friendly and strengthening " foods per se - such as Kim Chee, pickles that are fermented (not vinegar brined), pickled fermented beets (once again, not vinegar brined), Live Zinger Salad (a jarred salad fermented treat sold in many health food stores, I can give details if necessary), beets in general, etc ..... I listened to his advice and I thankfully only had the sickness for 3 weeks max. Hope that helps her some! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com avos3857 [avos3857] Hi All: can anyone suggest any herbs/oils that are safe to use during pregnancy (14 weeks) she is having a terrible time with 'morning sickness' from time she gets up till around 2 and then at bedtime. Guest guest
Adding to Chris' info re: diet and impact on the body. Morning sickness (which can happen any other time of the day too for sure) is generally thought to be a signal from the body that something is needed. For the most part even those moms w/ severe morning sickness pretty much need to go ahead and eat and try to find something that will stay down. That being said there is a nutrition teaching in pregnancy that protein will help curb the morning sickness. Having a protein snack before going to bed or having your partner wake up before you and bringing you a protein snack to eat while in bed - then resting a bit - before getting up seems to help many women. Of course it could be that just having your partner doing something for you (even just believing that you mean it when you tell them to just not do anything) is usually a big hormonal help for pregnant women....but I digress. The snack can be anything from a hard boiled egg to a slice of bacon on toast to a small tofu scramble.....anything w/ protein. And take your time chewing through it. Aside from the nutrition standpoint, during the day a small piece of ginger candy to suck on or a bit of Chris' EO blend for labor also help to calm the stomach. I have used Chris' EO blend w/ laboring moms and found that not only was their nausea abated but the stress levels came down as well. I'm sure that not feeling like they were going to keep losing their cookies went a long way to relieve their stress but I would venture that the blend has something for the emotional side of labor too. Additionally there is an accupressure point above the wrist. I know there is a acupressure booklet for labor out on the web by Debra Bett's. Last, does anyone know about something called The Relief Band? It goes on the wrist so I'm sure it is based on the principal of acupressure. Guest guest
Dear Dale and all. I have heard people recommend the Sea Bands that people use when they go on a cruise ship for helping with both morning sickness and nausea from chemotherapy. I haven't had any of the above (yet) so I can't comment from personal experience. Just a thought. Dorothy > Additionally there is an accupressure point above the wrist.
