Actually, there are two different species of Jewelweed, Pale and Spotted. Pale Jewelweed (Impatiens pallida)is often a little taller (3 - 5 feet) and has yellow flowers. Spotted Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) has spotted orange flowers and ranges from 2 - 5 feet. They often grow in the same area. According to the web site someone just posted, the Spotted is better for poison ivy rememdies. Has anyone made soap or salve with jewelweed? I'm wondering if you'd dry it before infusing it or do it green . . . Any tips would be appreciated. TIA, rox

TIA, rox Hi Rox, I posted earlier on the salve, but here's the best way I've found to use jewelweed in making soap. Gather as much jewelweed you need to fill a blender.Chop up immediately(fresh). Cover with distilled water. Blend til pureed. Strain. Some people use that for the water contentat the beginning. I discount the water 40%, and because I CPHP, I add the juice after the cook. You could also add at trace if you CP. My personal belief is that the herb's properties are lost if you add in the beginning with the lye. My understanding is that once jewelweed is dry, it's no longer usesful because the " juice " that heals is gone. Hope that helps you! Thanks so much, Linda! I just wasn't sure how to proceed w/ this, knowing that the fresh juice is important. I'll look in the archives to see what you posted about making salve.
