Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I looked through the archives, but didn't see anything about poison ivy relief. Anyone here know of a good " recipe " or something that I can buy to reduce the irritation of this? My Mom has been " playing " in her yard & has it all over her arms, but she doesn't want to go to the doctor for a shot. Thanks a bunch! Best is to have tincture ready with it, made with Apple Cider Vinegar. I've been told there is now a very good over the counter med available, but do no tknow the name. Anyone here know of a good " recipe " or something that I can buy to reduce the irritation of this? Hi Tammy- Where do you live? Here in Michigan Jewelweed is in bloom. It's got an orange speckled flower that's shaped like a pouch. It's about 3-4' high, and it may even be growing where your mom got into the poison ivy! It's usually in a wet area (ditches, boggy areas), and near nettlles, poison ivy, or oak. She can rub the juices right from the plant for immediate relief. I make a salve by infusing the jewelweed 4-5 times in the same virgin olive oil, add some vitamin E tocopherals roman chamomille and lavender EOs, along with natural beeswax. Works great. Hope this helps...good luck! Linda P
Guest guest
Hi Linda, We're in Northern KY, near Louisville. She knows a lot more about flowers & herbs than I do, so I'll have her on the lookout for the Jewelweed. I would easily be able to whip something up w/beeswax, chamomile, lavender & Vitamin E. Thanks a bunch! Tammy - Linda Parkhurst Monday, September 06, 2004 11:24 AM Re: Poison Ivy relief? Hi Tammy- Where do you live? Here in Michigan Jewelweed is in bloom. Guest guest
Hi, I would like to know if the yellow variety of jewelweed has the same properties as the orange? I've been looking for that information but unable to find an answer. I don't think it is as good as the orange variety but I would like to know and not waste my time using the yellow variety. Any ideas or sites on this would be wonderful. Thank you, Kat -- " When you come to the edge of all that you've known and are about to step into darkness, one of two things will happen. Guest guest
According to my herb books, the blossom colors range from a creamy yellow/white color to magenta and the only difference between the plants is the color of the blossom. All the other properties are the same. Mine is blossoming right now and I'll try to take some pictures and post them in the group files later today - if it doesn't rain again.
