Very OT: Need info on Australian insects to win a bet

G'day all you Austrailians on the list. Feel free to

answer me backchannel so as not to clog the list with

Very OT subjects ;-)

 

Please help out an American friend. I am in an

argument and have a small sum bet on it... I claim

that the large amount of flies in Australia come from

" introduced " species (like blowflies aka bluebottles)

and not indigenous species of flies. My friend claims

not so, that Australia had a " fly problem " before the

" introduced " species ran amok.

 

I have searched the internet, but have only been able

to confirm that the flies that make 90% of the sheep

strikes are introduced blowflies. To be fair, I think

our argument is about flies as pests of humans and all

livestock.
