Guest guest
Hi all, Would love to get advice from fellow listers whether mixing of FO, EO and unscented lotion is advisable? FOs is usually stronger in scent compared to EO, and I was thinking of making the lotion more 'attractive' to my friends, so that they will use the lotion and at the same time reap therapeutic benefits from the EOs...however, will the FO spoil the EO's therapeutic effects? Thanks all! regards, Ben
Guest guest
Ben, What you are suggesting is commonplace in the perfume and fragrance trade in general. Blends of synthetic and natural ingredients are what are used to produce thousands of fragrances. However, it is critically important to not use more than the fragrance trade recommend for the specific chemicals involved. Therefore, if you use a ready blended fragrance oil, then you got big problems as you will never find out which proportions of chemicals they have used to create the blend (often 30 or more chemicals). Only the *manufacturer* of the fragrance blend will know what level of use is common and safe for products. If you bought it from an AT supplier it is most unlikely they would have that kind of information as the manufacturer could be a long way back in the chain of supply. If you could get that information then you could hedge your bets by using a lot less than average in your product as synthetics usually are quiet potent. If you can't get that vital usage information, my advice is to not risk it and stick to blends of essential oils; at least the safety levels of the 'tested' oils in products is known.
