Guest guest
Ouch! Carol, I'm sorry to hear that. It's odd, though, as we have a muttling (have no idea what breed - some sort of terrier - we saved her from a shelter), and she loves to play rough with our setter, Bella. Last week, Jody kept holding her paw up as though she had injured it, and she wouldn't let us near her to see what was up. She's fine now, and I gave her 1/2 aspirin (per the vet's advice), and I think she just played rough with Bella. Too bad they can't speak our language, isn't it? Cindy - Carol Pearce Monday, August 30, 2004 3:29 PM Re: OT: Happy Monday Or is it? Hi all... Hope your Monday is going well... On saturday afternoon my dog started to scream everytime he tried to climb a step. He is in a lot of pain. I have taken him to the vet, and they say that one of his disks in his spine, has become dislodged ( ok, there is a technical phase for it, But I can't remember it), apparently it's common for lhasa's to get it.. He is still at the vet, and I'm sure that when I pick him up later he will feel much better ( better than I will when I see the bill, I bet, lol). Just feeling a little down and over emotional, due to only getting 2 hours sleep last night. So for anyone who has a lhasa, watch out for this, these types of dogs are not supposed to play tug of war, with people or our other dog. When he comes home he is expected to be caged for maximum rest for 8 weeks, and now that he has gotten this once, there is a great chance of reoccurance, if it gets bad, I'm looking at a $4000 operation, which I know I won't be able to afford. Anyway, just wanted to warn all you other dog owners, that he got this running up the stairs, so It can't really be avoided. So bubble wrap your lhasa's and don't let them run happy and free.. Carol ( who is going for her 5th tea, just can't seem to wake up). - " Christine Ziegler " <chrisziggy Monday, August 30, 2004 8:17 AM OT: Happy Monday! > Just popping in quickly to say Happy Monday! Guest guest
Carol: Hope you dog will feel better when he gets home. Of course, you'll need that tea when you see the bill........ugh, expensive I'm sure. We have insurance for our puppy. Well, she's 13, but she's a baby to us and the insurance covers her check-ups, surgery, meds, etc. and has been well worth the monthly fee we pay. She's a Tibetan Spaniel and is very small, but has a great personality. I hope things improve for your puppy. Also, check because some vets will let you post date your checks or work out a payment plan for you. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Oh, yes! Please send pics! You can email me off list if you want....... As for aspirin - the doc told me that it's lethal for cats, but in small doses ok for dogs.....also depends on the size of the dog - this one is only 24 lbs. Our rottweiler can have a whole aspirin, but he's 121 lbs. Cindy - Thanks... I thought about giving him asprin last night, but didn't know if it would kill him..Last thing I wanted was to make him feel worse.. I had to go out in my jamies and pick him up to get him back in the house, what a site that must have been... The vet did say, that she has never seen a dog that size with such a huge head, so I will have to take some pictures.. I'm hoping they wil call soon, so that we can get him home.. Guest guest
Sorry about your dog Carol, I hope you both feel better soon. Asprin is OK for dogs, not tylenol- here is a link of some common household meds and doses - I am not a vet but they have helped me. http://animalsunlimited.net/meds.htm Gea > > Thanks... Guest guest
Hi Cindy, Aspirin can be given to cats, and my vet has had me do so on several occaisions. The doseage is 1/4 of a baby aspirin (80mg) once every three days, and not more than three lbs. Guest guest
I'm going to look into the insurance today, I know that my bill hit $450 before I left and that was before they did the Xrays. I have been really bad, my car gets more check-ups than my dogs, that's because I have a really cheap mechanic, now if I could only find a cheap vet, lol. My dogs, are pretty much backyard dogs and I don't like to get them shots that are unneccesary, I hear the rabies shot has developed some nasty side effects. He is such a big sucky dog , and loves to play puppy, so this rest is goina kill em. :-) I will try to post his mug for everyone to see. He has a huge nose and looks like a bear. Guest guest
Ok, thanks... I looked on the shelf the other day, because a neighbour mentioned she used it on her dog, but never found it... didn't really feel comfortable using it anyway, until I got more opinions .
