In my haste I accidently picked up Marjoram (Thymus mastichina)

instead of Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana/Majorana hortensis).

Can I interchange these or do I need to purchase the Sweet Marjoram

for my recipe. Thanks in advance, Kathy

Hi Kathy,

What kind of recipe is it? Are you using it purely for scent, or for a

specific " property " or " action " ?

If you search the archives, there ought to be a really great post on

the marjorams from Butch. I asked a few marjoram questions last

summer, and he posted a really comprehensive overview in response. :)

I use this in my snore spray. The recipe also contains geranium, lavender,

cedarwood, eucalyptus, sweet basil with a water base. My cedarwood is

definately a fragrance. This is my best seller and it really works. Kathy

Hmmm,

I'd say you might want to go ahead and get the origanum. Considering

that you're using it both for aesthetics (scent) as well as for the

potential " aromatherapeutic actions " , they do have profiles in both of

those areas that are significantly different enough to change your blend

into something other than what you're expecting and desiring.
