How old is your son... for me it depends upon the age. For my wee one, it was

soak the cotton ball, wash the gunk off, making sure it was sloppy wet, that

way, a little got in...

For the 6 year old and up, I did the same thing sort of... I soaked the

cotton ball, made a puddle over the eye and made them open their eye. The six

year

old wasn't phased at all, the 8 year old moaned and carried on. I said I

didn't care and open your eye anyway. THEN I mopped the gunk up and did the same

with a new cotton ball on the other side.

Worked slower with the wee one, but it worked, and worked faster with the

older ones. Even the moaner...

Course if you're a delicate caring mum (unlike myself who's a nasty piece of

work) who shudders at the thought of a " I DON WANNA " , you could stick with the

dabbing method and as an aside: even the wee one opened his eyes and didn't

give a squeak.

Hope that helps

Ok, I know this is in the archives somewhere but I can't find it and

don't have time to look anymore so maybe all of you could help me.

I bought some rose hydrosol from Butch for the express purpose of using

it for pink eye. Now that my son has it I don't know the method of

using it. Do I soak a cottonball and dab the eye? Or do I put a couple

drops in the eye. I have already done the cottonball thing because I

feel that is pretty safe but want to make sure I do it right.

Karen,

I recently had pink eye that my doctor said was viral...ha! It came back a few

times.

I used a strong tea made with 3 chamomile tea bags and 3 cups of water, steeped

for about 15 minutes. I took tea bags out of the water and let the tea cool.

Every hour, I dipped 4 cotton balls (individually - and AFTER washing my hands

thoroughly) and wiped my eye over the sink, so that the drips would go into the

sink and not the " tea. " After I used each cottonball, it went directly in the

garbage. Then I used another cottonball, and another, etc. Then I took another 2

cotton balls and got them fairly wet with rose hydrosol, and wiped my eye with

them. I then washed my hands again, with soap and hot water, and alcoholed the

sink area so that others didn't pick up any nasties. Did this for two days every

hour during waking hours. It worked for me. The tea I made in the morning lasted

all day. Any leftovers at night I tossed. Just be sure hands are clean, and the

hand you use to dip the cotton balls in the tea is not the one you use to wipe

your eye - you don't want to contaminate the source.

Thanks Kathleen and Barb,

My son is only 5 but he is used to eyedrops (he's got horrible

allergies, which, I think, is the reason he gets pink eye-he rubs them a

lot) so I will try for putting it IN the eye.

Thanks again
