Guest guest
While you might not want to use the dermatologist medicines, but you might want to use his expertise and get a diagnosis. If this has been going on to 2 years, it might just be time to fine out what it is and then plot a course of action. Maybe look for a DO as they are more open to natural therapies. If you are using comfrey on a deep wound, it can heal the surface and then the stuff on the bottom festers and causes more problems. Just an example. Best of luck. Guest guest
Hey folks. I'm hoping someone can help me....Perhaps Martin, if he's around, could shed some light on this one, since he sent some info a while back regarding the use of EO's on leg ulcers. I have a small area on my upper arm.... approximately the size of a dime, that will 'heal' then open back up again. It's like it only heals on the top of the opening, and then after a couple of months, it will reopen. I have some terrible scar tissue on the outer edges of the sore....purple and lumpy....and the sore, once it reopens will ooze a bloody tinged clear " oil " like stuff. Not really what you would call pus, it's not like it's infected. I have tried a bit of everything over the course of about 2 years now.....and the last time, I thought it was healed up for good. Until 2 days ago, and it opened again. <sigh> Any suggestions? Guest guest
Actually, I meant a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine - they are trained the same as a regular MD, but they also receive training in holistic techniques that emphasize the body's ability to heal. When I was having problems with my lower back, I went to a Neurologist that was a DO. He had no problem with me giving a diagnosis and then my using herbs to work problem. He did give me a prescription, but it was if I wanted to use it and it was not for a knock out drug to mask the problem. It was actually a muscle relaxer to release the tension. It turned out I had a bulging disk which I would never have been able to discover without the MRI. He also checked to be sure there was no nerve damage. So he told me the problem and I worked it with herbs and other holistic treatments. He did also write me a prescription for massages which my health insurance covered partially. He was also open to my seeing an acupuncturist as well. He sent me to physical therapy which helped greatly after a whiplash problem. Remember there are some doctors that are open to holistic treatments. I have found that using a DO instead of an MD or an MD that has been recommended from a local herb shop. Some of them really do use herbs or at least are open to their use. Or you can try a Doctor of Oriental Medicine as there is probably an imbalance in the body which is causing the flare ups. Best of luck and sorry to hear of your problems with the current dermatologist. Personally, I would not go back to him if he wasn't open to your wishes. He is not going to be able to do his job as the two of you are not on the same playing field. The doctor and the patient have to be working together for healing to take place. And I believe this goes for any type of healing. If you both don't trust each other or believe in the same types of healing, it will never work. It doesn't even stand a chance. You are wasting both your time and the doctor's. Look for a new doctor and ask questions before you make an appointment. I ask the person if the doctor is open to me strictly using herbs as a course of treatment. If they don't know or balk, I thank them for their time and look elsewhere. Because I know it will not work as the doctor will think I'm nuts for not taking his drugs and I'll think he just as nuts for not taking my herbs. And I respect both of our opinions and I wouldn't try to fight the system, because nobody wins. If you think your doctor is a quack before you go to them, there is no respect and more than likely no chance for healing to occur. Or tell them you are just looking for a diagnosis. Ask them to run the tests, get the results and work the issue with who you trust as your healer. Remember even if we think MDs are quacks, they have some wonderful tools to get to the root of a problem - blood test, x-rays, and such. I'll be getting down off my soap box now. Have a wonderful day. Green Blessings Patty Corapi In a message dated 8/18/2004 2:50:50 PM Eastern Standard Time, chrisziggy writes: Patti mentioned finding a Doctor Of Oriental Medicine .. Guest guest
Thanks Patty, I have not used Comfrey....as this was something I had heard too. Everytime I have been to the Dr.....I forget to mention it....and I don't want to make a special trip. Although I may have to do so. And not to mention, I really don't care for the way he is......I mean, he seems to be a pretty good doctor, but not very open to anything other than prescription medication. He wanted me to use a RX face wash....but it made my face worse! I told him that I was using homemade soap, and that it was doing better with that.....and he complained! Yet, he tried to send me home with a sample bar of DOVE soap for sensitive skin. How dumb is that? I don't need an MD after my name to know something was wrong with that! I told him that I can't use DOVE soap....there's something in it, that my skin truly doesn't like! I break out something horrible if I use that stuff. Hence, the reason I make my own soap! He wasn't amused in my balking his 'medical' advice that's for sure. Anyway, I guess I need to get with my family quack...um, I mean doctor, and see if he can recommend another dermatologist. Thanks again for your reply, Candy - <PACorapi Wednesday, August 18, 2004 2:05 PM Re: EO's for healing sores > While you might not want to use the dermatologist medicines, but you might > want to use his expertise and get a diagnosis. Guest guest
Hi Candy, I've made my doc laugh at me, but showed him the results too, so he's getting better about giving me crap about using what I can make. I wear a medication patch--dang thing gives me dermatitis, he wants me using cortisone cream (doesn't work). So I used cortisone cream on one patch, used my whipped shea on a newer patch, showed him the difference (the whipped shea heals faster than the cortisone cream did, even took the date labels that come with my patches and dated the treatment starts). He didn't say much but quit hassling me about using " moisturizer " on it LOL, Serra " C. Guest guest
Thanks Serra, I showed him how much my skin had improved using my soap over his RX face wash...... He still wasn't impressed. Perhaps he was just having a bad day..... I will have to keep up with dates and such for the next time I have a problem. Have a good one, Candy - " Serra " <serraangel Wednesday, August 18, 2004 2:51 PM Re: EO's for healing sores > Hi Candy, > I've made my doc laugh at me, but showed him the results too, so he's getting better about giving me crap about using what I > can make. > I wear a medication patch--dang thing gives me dermatitis, he wants me using cortisone cream (doesn't work). Guest guest
Patty, Me calling my family doctor a quack, was my poor attempt at a joke! The dermatolgist has done a fairly good job with the stuff he is treating.....with the exception of the RX face wash.... Just venting a little frustration..... But I am glad that you were on your soap box.....you did give me quite a bit to think about. Thanks, Candy - <PACorapi Wednesday, August 18, 2004 6:10 PM Re: EO's for healing sores > > Actually, I meant a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine - they are trained the > same as a regular MD, but they also receive training in holistic techniques that > emphasize the body's ability to heal. > > When I was having problems with my lower back, I went to a Neurologist that > was a DO.
