Its botanical name derives from the Greek and means " unbridled gold " , because of the colour and the vigorous aspect of its flower heads. It's an officinal plant. It has got many species, e.g. " Helichrysum Italicum " used to cure breathing deseases. An alpine species is cultivated in the botanical Garden at the Castel Savoia in Gressoney, and the one in the picture over here is the " Helichrysum milfordiae Killick " , coming from South Africa. Greek and Roman priests used to crown the statues of their Gods with these flowers, as they thought " they never rot " . Because of this quality (they in fact get dry but change neither colour not shape) it is also called " Everlasting " .
Guest guest
I use helichrysum eo, ginger eo, and black pepper eo in a St. John's Wort oil base as a massage oil for my wrist when it swells and aches. Takes the pain away in about 20 minutes and helps take the swelling down. Marilyn
Guest guest
I had a bad fall and split open my big toe, nail and nail bed, when i got home i started putting on Helichrysum (neat) and kept putting on, (it was still bleeding) I never lost the toe nail, healed without a scar. You can not even tell that it was so bad. sandi
