Guest guest
Hi Opal, > Butch, > > Thanks so much. I will be emailing you sometime this week. Fair it is .. but you might want to do it pretty soon even though you just want information .. no commitment, etc. Because .. I am in the panic mode that I get into each time I plan a long trip. Come Zero Light Thirty on Thursday morning I will board a plane along with all the terrorists and head to the USA for an extended stay. Have no idea when I'm coming back cause the Spirit didn't tell me that yet. But it will be a minimum of 60 days .. more like 90 methinks. I'll have sporadic access to a PC whilst traveling but no time to give long replies and no access to the files in my PC here. For orders, I will just forward them to my folks in Maryland for confirmation. While in Atlanta and in a couple of other places where I will stay with folks I will have access to their PC but I don't plan to let that interfere with the good times, good food, good drink and fellowship I will be sharing with those folks. ;-) When I get to my company in Maryland (on the West ByGawd Virginie) line, around the end of August .. I'll be spending a lot of time at the PC again .. but still not have access to my files. > When I first became interested in aromatherapy I read as much as I could > with what was out there but I was noticing discrepancies when it came > to the amounts of oils that should be used in applications. It left > me confused and I started wondering where the aromatherapist was > getting their information. What safety data were they using? I have > several books on the subject; ironically the majority of them are > very similar and I guess they would be considered `fairy tales'. > tales'. Yep .. they are that .. novels, etc. Regurgitation of regurgitation of un-referenced material. Many writers in this industry seem to confuse references with bibliographies. One can go to a library, copy pertinent publishing data from a hundred books and build a fine bibliography .. but if its not applicable its eye wash and in most cases none of the actual data contained in those books will be referenced in the new novel. > I had emailed a few of the authors a few years ago in regards to the > claims they had listed in the books I purchased. I wanted to know the > research that was done which supported their claims. I am still > waiting to hear back from them. Hope you're not holding your breath in the meantime. ;-) Matter of fact is that there are not all that many references regarding AT as a practice. That's because its not recognized as being much more than a cottage industry. The information out and about that is valuable was produced by and for the cosmetics and flavoring industries .. which, by the way, is the reason most Essential Oils are produced. There is the referenced safety testing data in Martin's " Plant Aromatics " regarding dermal application of EO .. proven safe dilution and such. And there are MANY references pertaining to the perfumery industry .. I have a lot of them and they are NOT inexpensive. I have copies of presentations made at some of the professional meetings/seminars, etc., that are very interesting and FAR, FAR more scientific than almost all other sources. Then there is data from the International Fragrance Research Association http://www.ifraorg.org/ which is more European than it is American And the sister organization, Research Institute for Fragrance Materials http://rifm.org/press_room.htm .. http://rifm.org/press_news_events.htm which is based in the USA. > What had started out, as a curiosity has rapidly become addictive! Easily understood that is. :-P > When I have time I am usually online searching for information on herbs, > essential oils, hair, skin care, and visiting forums. Good it is. There is an abundance of information out and about now on the I-Net. But remember this .. the I-Net is not monitored or approved or even reviewed .. so all the info out there is not solid. Its tough sometimes to separate the corn from the chicken manure. > There was a review about Martin Watt a few months ago. I can't > remember the site (it was similar to epinions) but the poster spoke > highly of his work and mentioned the research he had done. I was > impressed since it was exactly what I was looking for. I want to know > more than 'claims'. Martin is a good source. But as is the case with any subject there will be some who don't agree with all of his positions. In an ideal world, I can say that his positions on safety are not valid .. but in practical application I am not going to agree with all of them for the same reasons that I don't agree that guns are killers and should be outlawed. People are killers and they should be taught to use guns properly. > I see you offer essential oils on your site and one of the locations > is in Maryland. I live in Maryland. I will send a pm to the email > provided to find out the bulk prices. Fair it is. My retail site is in a Mell uva Hess .. I neglected it for more than 2 years because over 85% of my sales are wholesale and there are only 25 hours in each day of an 8 day week. The new one, not yet on line, is coming on line BEFORE I go to the USA. Many new oils have been added and all the dates of production have changed. Truth is, my sales have gotten to a point that neither me nor my staff in Maryland can keep up with all the admin humma-humma .. I have hired more folks there but there is still only one of me and its to me that an average of 40 e-mail a day come to for technical information on EO. My folks in MD have no such knowledge and no time to learn it. > I will skydive in a heartbeat (love it) but I think I will pass on > sticking my hand in a rattlesnake den. Its safer to sky dive fer'shur. I made my first of many jumps when I was but 17 years old .. in the 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell. > We had timber rattlesnakes http://www.dnr.state.md.us/wildlife/vsnakes.html > in our area about 7 years ago. I live in rural part of Baltimore County, MD. My store is in Friendsville .. just off Highway 68 (Memorial Highway) in that little finger twxit WV and PA. Its in a green valley, cut by a white water river and a trout stream, amidst the Appalachian Mountains. Population is normally 597 but it increases when I come to town and it increases by 200-300 weekends and holidays when folks come to ride the rapids. Its near the Deep Creek Recreation Area .. and its in MD cause its too far south to be in PA and too Redneck to be in WV. ;-) That's a purty little snake in the photo. I have no problems with Jake. Its the two laiged snakes that bother me. > I remember seeing the pretty markings on the snake in the yard and wondering, > what type of snake is it? The only types I see around here are the black > snakes, garter snakes, the occasional copperhead but no rattlesnakes. I grew up on the TN-KY line .. we had/have lots of snaddlerakes there, and copperheads too .. but in all those years I know of only one person to be bitten and he deserved it. Dumb cluck was riding his bike on a trail down at Land Between the Lakes. Jake NoShoulders slithered across the path and this boy decided to run him down. When the front wheel hit old Jake he did a natural and struck out .. caught the boy in the ankle and went riding with him. They both learned from that episode. ;-) > I `googled' and found out they were timber rattlesnakes. They usually > aren't this close but they did have a news feature a few days later > about them being in closer. I have not seen anymore since that year. Good .. and if you don't go looking for them .. and make a lotta noise when you're walking through the woods .. and step ON logs instead of stepping OVER logs .. and don't put your hands in stumps and holes and such .. odds are you will not see another one. :-P > I am sure they are around hanging out on our property in the woods. > They can stay there. :-) Good attitude that is. They need a place to live too. In Friendsville folks have to lock down their garbage cans .. black bears come down to see what's happening at night. Never has there been an attack but it could happen if Mama Bear had yonkers and somebody got twixt her and them. But that's the way Mamas of all species react. > Opal Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
