Oh I'm jealous of your rock Butch. I love rocks! Thanks for sharing your

birthday with us. I'm glad that you were well taken care of! They took my

wisdom teeth in my 20's...maybe that's why it took me so long to get wise. I

could have used any wisdom they had to impart.

Peggy

Got a great gift from a feller who is the Director of the Turkish Mining

Association .. twas in his truck and not really planned as a gift for

me. Its a stone about the size of a grapefruit .. one of a few that are

being assayed now to determine the feasibility of mining that particular

location. This stone weighs maybe 15 pounds .. its speckled with gold,

silver, iron, copper and lead. Very pretty it is and a special thing to

have since I didn't have anything like that in my mismatched decor. ;-)

Hey Chris,

And all the other kind folks who wrote me on line and off line .. like

Allana, Candy, Christa Maria, Christina, Cindy, Debra, Dorothy, Jane,

Jonathan, Lynette, Kathy, Kelly, Liz, Nancy, Neysa, Peggy, Rahnny, Rita,

Sandi, Sharon, Sue, Vicki, Vickie and Wendy,

In my entire life I never had so many Birthday Greetings .. it was very,

very nice and greatly appreciated. :-)

Gonna thank folks on line with one post so as to not cramp the list ..

the cheering begins now. ;-)

Also thanking folks off line .. each and every greeting was appreciated

and deserves a personal reply.

> Just wanted to toss that out there ;) Hoping your day (which is more

> hours into it over on your side of the pond) is going GREAT and you're

> stuffing your face with Turkish pastries!

Can't keep a secret .. can you? ;-) I did have a bit of cake .. twas

not a planned event. The day started crappy .. left my office just

after noon to go deal with some Turkish gummit bureaucrats regarding my

duty free automobile .. simple issues they are trying hard to complicate

after nine straight years of doing the same thing each year for the car

without a problem. That's what gummits are for .. methinks. And poorly

paid civil servants know how to make offers you can't refuse. After I

found the right code I was able to get their attention .. that code is

sometimes as simple as a kilo of baklava .. this time it was $$$.

After three hours of that crap I decided to go to a dentist. For a

couple of weeks I've had problems with my last wisdom tooth. I reckon

it figured I was as wise as I was ever gonna get so it started working

itself loose. The night before last I tried to take it out myself with

dental floss but only got it about half out. So I went to see a buddy

named Erdahl .. has a dental office in the same building as my watering

hole .. the Papsi Pub. Erdahl thought it was funny that I had tried to

take it out myself and asked me if I was trying to put him out of

business. ;-)

Short of it was .. it was almost out so no Novocain was required. He

popped that sucker out in a heartbeat and there was like almost no blood

as it wasn't really well connected anyway. Total cost was $13.79 in US

dollars .. Turkey is not expensive. ;-) He gave me the spiel on no

eating, smoking, drinking, etc., for three hours .. then said he knew I

was not going to listen to him and as it was almost closing time anyway

we'd just go downstairs and drink a beer .. which we did. And after a

day of hassling with the bad guys it was nice to sit and have an ice

cold Efes or three in this terrible heat with the good guys.

Shorter of it was .. after a couple of beers I was joking about the

wisdom tooth and wisdom and told him it was my birthday. Well, I had

plans that night .. a purty gal was gonna take me to dinner at 7 .. but

around 5 or so folks started trickling into the Papsi Garden and Erdahl

is telling them its my birthday and they start calling other friends on

their cell phones and by 6 or so I'm feeling great and there are twenty

some folks there. So I call the purty gal and tell her she better just

come on down cause there ain't gonna be no leaving this place soon. ;-)

They laid out the tables and we chowed down on watermelons, this and

that fresh fruits, olives, white cheese, pizza from Pizza Hut and

chicken from KFC (the Ankara managers of both were there so they had

their folks deliver) and stuffed mussels .. that's a treat the college

kids peddle to make extra money. Steamed and stuffed with rice and

raisons .. open that rascal, pour on some lemon juice and its larpin'

gud fer'shur.

The party went on till way after closing time (which is supposed to be

midnight) but when the cops came and saw that a couple of the party

members were also cops they agreed to let it go on long as we quieted

down a bit .. which we did .. a bit. ;-)

A couple I'll answer on line ..

> Happy Happy Birthday, ORF !!!!

> To those that may not know what ORF means, Old Retired Fart!

> Sue

True it is .. I became an part time ORF when I left Uncle Sugar's Army,

after 30 years, on 1 January 1989 .. and then did this and that and the

other and now am putting in 15-16 hours a day with my companies and I'm

not too vain to say that I turned 62 years wise yesterday. Which makes

me think hard about why I am turning down that Social Security check I

have authorized to draw for almost 24 hours .. and continuing to do what

I'm doing now. Haven't figured out the answer yet .. but when (if) I do

I'll let y'all know. ;-)

> I'm glad that you were born! I've learned and laughed so much.

> Happy Birthday Butch

> Peggy

Thankee ma'am .. laughing is good medicine. We should do all we can to

avoid those who don't laugh or smile .. those who take themselves too

seriously .. and we should avoid those who are perpetually disgruntled

... those who walk around with a black cloud hanging over their head.

Them thar folks gonna blow up and when that happens we don't need to be

around. What they forgot to learn was that living is what we do while

we're waiting to die. ;-)

One lady wrote me off line .. so she is not identified here.

> Wishing you a happy one and many more to come in good

> health and may you be surrounded by a bevy of beautiful

> women, a good cigar and your favorite Whiskey..

Twas 4-5 wimmens there that would qualify in that regard .. but I was

with the one that's sorta a girl friend now so I couldn't pay a lot of

attention to them. ;-) And twarn't no whiskey .. but we had some

mighty fine Efes Beer and Tekirdag Raki .. mighty fine. :-)

> Have fun, enjoy..

> Celebrate that you made it for another year. :-)

To which I replied, " Thanks .. it is something to celebrate for sure.

The alternative to getting old is NOT a good one. ;-)

> Happy Birthday to one of my favorite people in the world! Not many

> can make me want to read a post more than once and really make me

> think, share valuable information (free of charge), and make me

> actually laugh out loud!

> Happy Birthday Butch!

> Sharon

Thankee ma'am for the kind words. Like I said, laughing and smiling are

good medicine. As for providing information .. that doesn't come from

being smart .. it comes from having lived long enough to collect a bit.

;-)

Again .. I thank all you folks for the kind greetings. You helped make

my birthday a very special one .. one I will not forget.

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch
