Guest guest
Hi Pat! I wouldn't beat myself up about being a wimp if I were you... I had a bad cold and an earache once when I had to take a flight. When I arrived home the ear didn't really hurt but was blocked. I waited for it to clear...a least two weeks if not longer. I tried some remedies, but nothing really helped. So I went to the doc. I had a blocked Eustachian canal. It was bad enough that it was beginning to affect my hearing. The fact that I had waited so long meant that the nerves might have been permanently damaged. I went through general anesthetic to have them drain the ear, and then had a drain in the ear drum for... a week? My hearing came back 100% according to the tests, but when I test myself by covering one ear and then the other and comparing, I hear a difference. So now I never think I'm being a wimp...I pay close attention to my ears when I have a cold. I try to keep all the mucus flowing freely. So recently when I had another cold and real earache, I got help from this list, did what I was told (heat, onion, garlic, ear candles), but went to see the doc a week after the pain was gone, just to be sure it was all clear (because we're going to be flying again!). If the pain had lasted more than a day or two I would have gone to the doc earlier. We take our wonderful senses for granted, but they are so finely tuned that we need to pay close attention when one is in danger! Guest guest
Thanks, Ann for your encouragement! Sounds like it was awful what you went thru! This turns out to be an outer ear infection, but is still killing me after 2 days on antibiotics. Been sleeping most of Saturday & using the heat socks. I even have pain drops for the ear but they dont seem to help much. I'm hoping I feel a lot better tomorrow (well, it's already tomorrow). See, I'm awake at 4:15 am with the pain. Oh, well, it could be a lot worse. I'm hangin in there. Hugs, Pat , Anne Charlet <abccharlet@n...> wrote: > Hi Pat! > I wouldn't beat myself up about being a wimp if I were you... Guest guest
Hi, I'm a new member with a 7 yr. old child on the Autistic spectrum. He suffered many ear infections as a child. Something I learned recently was to use a few drops of 3% Hydrogen Proxicide in the ear to clean it out. It bubbles a lot and feels funny if there's stuff in there. I was told last year I had Eustacion Tube disorder, meaning I had fluid in my ear. The doc's remedy was to have me take prescription Guafsiene (sic) twice a day. That stuff made me so drowsy I couldn't take care of my child. And I was often in painI tried the hydrogen proxicide, and the ear cleared up with 2 treatments (2 days apart). The 3rd treatment it didn't bubble so I knew I was done. I tried it in my son's ears, as I feel he still has fluid in his ears or something wrong, and it really bubbled. He requests it now, and I do it every 3 days or so as he is swimming a lot this summer. Good luck, hope the pain ends soon. Guest guest
Exactly how do you do this? Laying on one's side and let the drops fall down in the ear? Do you rinse it or anything? >child. Guest guest
I want to add this worked for me too, and this is how I did it just tilted my head and put some in let it fizz for a few mins. then leaned that ear on a towel, then did the other ear. They say when you feel a cold or bug coming on to do this for it helps get the infection out of these cannals. Sandra - Joshua Alexander Exactly how do you do this?
