Hi Debra,

Unrefined shea has a slight " smoky " scent to it. Refined shea butter is

the one with no smell at all.

Greetings,

I need some information please, I just received some unrefined Shea

Butter.

I have never used it before and not quite sure what aroma it has or

should

have?

Thank you, in advance.

Debra

OOOPs I thought I read refined, but it depends on the shea, I have got it from

dark smokey to a very mild tolerant fragrant. Marti

Thanks Chris, that describes it perfectly! I had been sitting here wondering

how I was going to describe it if someone asked, lol.

Hi Marti :)

Yeah,

There are differing qualities of shea butter for sure. I've experienced

quite a few over the years. Part of the reason it is so important to get

tested shea, so that one has an idea of what they're getting ... :)

Hi Christine

your are so correct

tested unrefined Shea butter is the safety way to go when using the raw Shea

butter

I know of only of a few who have theirs tested Margret, and Carla at

www.houstoncandlesupply.com

a you

what people don't under stand about untested Shea butter

it can contain harmful bacteria which temp ing it wont kill

and when making lotions and cream we don't heat it hot enough to kill the mold

spores

which can be transferred to the skin

the test are not cheap it cost $400 usd to have the test preformed not only

does it tell you the

quality of the Shea butter

but iron

unsponifiable values

mold found if any

vit E , A, F values in it

and many other things

the American Shea butter institutes on issues grade A and B certificated

Houston candle supply carry A & B , with certificated from asbi and a health

certificate for Ghana health dept

I believe Margret Carry's the same

My shea came from agbangakarite and I have spoken to the owner in California,

and he will provide me with certificate, I truly don't think this large company

that has been in business for few years will try and sell contaminated shea, but

I will call him tomorrow and get this certificate. Marti
