Guest guest
Last night on ABC they showed the movie " Practical Magic " . At the end of the movie they said something about having lavender in your garden for luck and rosemary by the garden gate. I think I've heard something like this before. I thought it was rosemary by your front door or a specific plant in a certain part of your yard. Are these old Celtic superstitions or old wives tales from somewhere? Does anyone know about some of the old believes, stories or superstitions about plants?? Namaste, Rita

Guest guest
Not an easy one to reply to because it all depends on which country or area the traditions comes from. They vary like crazy but one can sometimes find common denominators. There are many herbals available which give some of this information, also books on magical and pagan- type practices that give a lot of so called folklore, but beware, a lot of that has been 'invented' in modern times. The best herbal still is 'A Modern Herbal' by Mrs Grieve (somewhere online as well). Here are a few snippets from old herbals and the use is the HERB not the oil: Rosemary: In a clothes-chest it renders moths and insects less 'merrie'. If hidden under a bed the sleeper is delivered from evil dreams. Another source but similar: If the leaves be put beneath your pillow, you will be protected from troublesome dreams and mental anxiety. It is an ancient cure for hang-overs. The medicinal uses are endless. Best thing is to plant it someplace where it can have its head in the sun for a good part of the day. It will attract bees and rare hover flies from miles around. That will ensure your other plants are well pollinated, so an ideal plant for planting close to fruit bushes or trees that need pollination. Grow it, use it, enjoy it and worship it. Then write your own folklore- sounds a bit like aromatherapy doesn't it Martin http://www.aromamedical.com -- In , " ritabohn2001 " <ritabohn2001> wrote: > Last night on ABC they showed the movie " Practical Magic " . Guest guest
Yes, rosemary is a good one to have in a lotion for pain. I also add juniper and a smidgeon of wintergreen, but watch how often I use it. C-M
