Guest guest
I am having a major flea problem, I tried everything, flower essence, ACV, Sevi's recipe on her site, I only have one rug in my house its vacuumed 2-3 times a day, I shampooed and dried it last weekend- all bedding, dogs and human washed everyday, the dogs are not going out on the grass just a cement area that is hosed daily. My couch is leather- wiped down daily and all the other floors are tile or wood, washed daily- because I have a nursing mom & pups I finally broke down and got advantage from the vet- didn't work, just made me sick and 2 days later more fleas- I have had animals all my life and never had this problem, when I bath the dogs the fleas are sticking flat to the skin, they are like super fleas. - any ideas please, I need to get control of this, it is bad for all the dogs but very dangerous for the 3week old pups- I am using a flea comb now but I cannot find out where the heck they are coming from no one in the house is getting bit? thanks gea
Guest guest
Are you leaving a light on at night? On the porch? Near a door? Fleas are attracted to light, hence the flea kill appliances you see that plug in, like a night lite. In the olden days, people's dogs slept under the house. Back in those days (my grandparents & great grandparents), would sometimes light little fires away from the house on all four sides and leave burning at night. Fleas would be attracted to the light and actually jump into the flames. IT worked for them. While I don't suggest you do that, fire danger and all, it would still help that IF you're burning a light all night, (like a porch light) to not do that for awhile and see if it helps. Guest guest
Do you think they could be in the vacuum cleaner bag? Ann I only have one rug in my house its vacuumed 2-3 times a day,
Guest guest
I have a bagless and I washed it out and cleaned the filter- but I do leave a nightlight on so mom can see to get in and out to the pups, that is probably a big part of the problem. thanks Gea , " Ann Thorpe " <Ann@s...> wrote: > Do you think they could be in the vacuum cleaner bag? > Ann > I only have one rug in my > house its vacuumed 2-3 times a day, > >
Guest guest
Yes, they will live in the sweeper bag. Then they reproduce and you get more and more. I have heard if you feed the dog garlic the fleas with flee. I don't know if this will help you but I wish you luck. Kathy - Ann Thorpe 6/25/2004 9:10:03 PM Re: fleas- help!!! Guest guest
Hi, The things I've heard that help chase off fleas are pennyroyal (often I see herbal folks at shows who've made bandannas with pennyroyal in them) and to feed the dogs brewer's yeast. I've been lucky, my hairy family members haven't had fleas so I haven't had the dubious honor of trying either of these out. Guest guest
Oh, this reminded me of a method to get rid of fleas in the house. Set up a bowl of water with a few drops of dish washing liquid in it, then put a light over it so that the light shines into the water. Leave this on all night (cover with a screen or something if you have cats or dogs that would try to drink the soapy water). The fleas jump up for the light and fall into the water and because of the soap film can't get out, and they drown. I have never tried this but have heard from many that it works. I use DE (diatomaceous earth) around the areas that I have seen fleas. We sprinkle it on the carpet and leave it for a night and vacuum up the next day, plus we sprinkle it on the dogs coats and work it in. Be sure to get food grade DE because when the cats or dogs bite it won't hurt them to ingest it. Some people even sprinkle a little over their food every day to kill internal parasites. I buy my DE at the local hardware store in their garden section. There is a swimming pool grade DE, but you do NOT want that kind. It must say Food Grade on the package. samala Renee " tossed down to live among angels, who have forgotten what they are, I strive to remember " RLV 1998 ---- Are you leaving a light on at night? Guest guest
Hi gea, I know it's not a natural way to get rid of fleas, but 'Program' works. My family had very bad flea problem with my cat for years when I was a kid. Our vet recommended trying Program when it just came out, and we only tried once, then never had fleas since. (my cat was indoor cat, though). It prevents fleas to reproduce. Akiko
Guest guest
I was told to place moth balls in the flea infested area, and they will leave, I did it and as I remember it worked, Marti
Guest guest
Thats very, very possible. They are tenacious critters. Again, vaccuming up some diatomaceous earth will kill them in the bag, and you wont have to change the bag so often, mary Well, Naturally http://www.wellnaturally.com At 12:08 AM 6/26/2004 +0100, you wrote: >Do you think they could be in the vacuum cleaner bag? >Ann > I only have one rug in my > house its vacuumed 2-3 times a day, > >
Guest guest
Unfortunately, when we moved into our house, nearly 8 years ago, it was absolutely infested with fleas from the previous owner. We had no idea what we were up against. We had an exterminator come THREE times to the house. We were instructed to vacuum at least twice a day and empty the bag EVERY time OUTSIDE - do NOT leave the bags in the garbage in the house. It took about a month to be completely flea-free, and we haven't seen a flea since. I'm not saying you have to hire a professional exterminator, but you MUST empty the vacuum cleaner bag (or container in some cases for some models) with each vacuum and dispose of it outside. Good luck! Cindy - I only have one rug in my house its vacuumed 2-3 times a day,
Guest guest
If you feed them a raw food diet it will help, too... Bonnie Yes, they will live in the sweeper bag.
