I was trying to come up with that response > but couldn't do it so eloquently. NO, we DON " T and SHOULD'T fight like > they do. That would tell everyone (and most importantly our children) > that we believe what they do is acceptable. It takes truly " civilized " > people to be respectable in warfare. It truly does .. and some folks have difficulty understanding how civilized man can fight a war .. but its an old tradition. There were times in history when folks took tea breaks. Even in the Early British Kingdoms .. from around 400-600 AD .. and through the Anglo Saxon Period .. up to 1000 AD .. knights truly wore shining armor .. and though there were some forced changes during some of the Middle Ages .. up to 1480 AD or so that still held true. After the Reformation down thru the 20th Century the Art of War was still held in great esteem and enemy officers treated each other with respect. In America this continued through the French & Indians War, American Revolution, Spanish-American and Mexican-American Wars and the War of Northern Aggression. It held true in World War I .. but in WW II it began to slide .. not bad treatment of Germans by Americans or Americans by Germans .. bad treatment of Americans by Nazis and Imperial Japanese Forces. Since that time, through the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the short term wars in the Southern Hemisphere, Middle East and Balkans, American and European allies continued to treat enemies with some degree of dignity. Then came Somalia .. we know what happened to Americans and other UN Troops there .. and now we are facing combat against non-nation sponsored enemies so we can expect no quarter .. and we will give none methinks .. at least on the field of battle. War is no longer a viable means of settling disputes between nations. That is recognized and accepted by all civilized nations but all nations are not civilized yet .. and the extremist groups that are operating without national support don't even have a legal requirement to abide by the Traditions of War, the Laws of War or Geneva Convention Agreements because .. they are not signatories .. nor even legitimate combatants .. they are criminals .. that's the legal definition of a terrorist. And they are NOT Freedom Fighters because it is against Freedom that they commit their acts of terrorism. > JMnevertobeHO > Karen J Good opinion methinks. :-) Butch
