Guest guest
The major difference is that a pack of wolves will attack only because they need to eat you .. they are hungry. These Islamic terrorists are not hungry .. I beg to differ with this. I think they are hungry.. Hungry for blood. And at least wolves are satiated. These people never will be, at least until they are, as you put it, under the snakes. No ma'am .. then we would be no better than they are. American soldiers do not regret innocent deaths because the media bomblasts them or the locals call them murderers. The average young American will carry such unfortunate memories with them until they go under snakes. Its not a norm for Americans (or Europeans) to do such things. Even criminals in American prisons have their own morals .. as child molesters and sex crime offenders always learn when they go on a cell block. Thank you for saying that. I was trying to come up with that response but couldn't do it so eloquently. NO, we DON " T and SHOULD'T fight like they do. That would tell everyone (and most importantly our children) that we believe what they do is acceptable. It takes truly " civilized " people to be respectable in warfare. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, > Butch, > I really appriecate how you keep us up to date and informed on what is > going on over there. Welcome .. but I think most of you folks get it quicker than I do. ;-) > I am deeply disturbed by all of these attacks. Yep .. they have definitely thrown down the gauntlet .. and there can be no forgiveness for sawing off the heads of innocent people. > What I'm wondering is if the world pulled out now what would happen to all > of us (I'm sure they would think that they won)? They would have won if we pull out. Pulling out of Vietnam (regardless of whether the reasons were right or wrong) and pulling out of Somalia (which was WRONG and a BIG MISTAKE) only gave them more incentive .. and made the USA look like it was not willing to stick it out when faced with casualties .. which .. was true for a long time. > Would we live in fear of the terrorist for the rest of our lives? IF .. they are not converted into nice little stay-at-home daddies who teach their younguns to pray and follow the TRUE teachings of the Koran, then we have strong justification for fearing them .. they will continue to pop up when least expected. Its not like we are fighting against a nation-state sponsored evil .. if that were the case then there would be light at the end of the tunnel because no nation-state can stand up to the USA in conventional warfare .. and there is only so much guerilla or terrorist or house-to-house fighting we are willing to put up with .. regardless of the cries from Peaceniks to come home. But I think my post prior to this one indicated that they are not willing to be nice guys .. that is not their goal .. psychologists in the West and the Middle East have profiled these people and the ones they recruit. Basically .. peace will come for NOW through superior intelligence (meaning information sources) and superior firepower. Peace will come for the long term when the Islamic countries decide to crack down on the fundamentalist imams and hocas who are preaching Jihad and hatred in the mosques. Settlement of the difficulties between Israel and Palestinians is not a driver of that Peace Train .. its just another excuse they use for justifying their zeal. Take that away and they will find another. We must be right EVERY TIME .. but they only need to be right ONE TIME. Its a bit like being surrounded by a pack of wolves when you have only a stick to defend yourself. In time, they will get you. Those who are not with you at that time must make plans for how to deal with those wolves in the future. The major difference is that a pack of wolves will attack only because they need to eat you .. they are hungry. These Islamic terrorists are not hungry .. they are financed with millions of dollars and they are often led by well educated people. One of the leaders of Hizbullah captured in Turkey a couple of years back was a surgeon in one of the major hospitals. > Could the country (Iraq) become capable of working with the world market They can .. and probably will .. in time. But its not easy to adapt to a system that they have NEVER EVER experienced .. the form of Democracy practiced in America is different from that practiced in most of Europe and that practiced in newly formed Democratic countries will also be different .. and that's not bad. The concept of Democracy is but one of the many requirements for the practice of human rights, as is religion, and morals .. human rights and morals are not inherent in man .. they are learned behavior .. they began to be learned when man was exposed to religious teachings .. Buddhism, Confucius, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Prior to that man was but a two legged animal. The reason the Chinese Communists feel no need for practicing human rights is they no longer are driven by morals. Mao took that all away when he banished Buddha and Confucius and substituted Marx & Lenin. > or would some other mad man undo everything we are trying to help their > people with? Only if they are allowed to do so .. and I think the American people, the average left leaner included, would never accept that .. and for sure I think the American Congress wouldn't. The United Nations could turn their heads under the right conditions .. but no nation can allow decisions affecting their own best interests to be decided by a group like that represented in the UN .. or the UN Security Council. > I really don't want to be at war with people who value life so little as > to put the inocents at risk. Its only the extremists who think that way .. and they are easily recruited from the ignorant masses. Just today I was in the vicinity of the President of Turkey and commented to someone on how easy it would be to take him and half those present out if someone was willing to forfeit their own life in doing so. > One of the talk radio people I listen to (and I'm beginning to agree with > him) says " Why should we follow the rules of war when these terrorists don't? Because we are civilized and they aren't. Because we want to be an example of what a nation that respects human rights should be. At the same time, its not easy to combat those who don't think as we do .. and not easy to combat the partisan lines that normally pee and moan about what a president does .. regardless of what party is in power. There are times when ALL nations bend the rules based on tactical conditions of the day .. its something that is necessary for survival and something we don't want publicized .. that is a reality. > Shouldn't we just fight the way they fight. " No ma'am .. then we would be no better than they are. > I guess we should just start kidnapping their leadership and start > beheading them. Kidnapping hostile leaders is acceptable under the laws of land warfare. Beheading is acceptable if convicted by a court in a nation-state that uses that form of punishment. But not summary executions of innocents. > Sorry, I'm not a blood thirsty person but these terrorists make me feel > this way. Kathy I am sure you are not blood thirsty. I'm sure no sane people are .. and that goes for the American military .. you are just frustrated .. and a bit angry. I share these feelings with you. I swear on the lives of my children that I will break for any animal and I even avoid stepping on ants on the sidewalk if I can avoid it .. but I would not lose a single moment of sleep by gutting or giving a third eye to one of the assholes who are even now planning to kill folks like us.
