Guest guest
Hi Anna, My suggestions are primarily dietary. If you eat meat, cut it back to no more than twice a week and buy organic or free-range. Most commercial meat has large quantities of hormones in it, which wreak havoc on the body. Also, severely limit or eliminate altogether dairy products (milk, cheese, ice cream) for the same reason. You may be able to find raw goat milk cheese at a health food store and that's a fair substitution if you absolutely think you must have cheese. White sugar and white flour are two other culprits, and they cause major mood swings and cravings. Switch over to whole wheat and less processed sweeteners like honey and maple syrup. Lastly, avoid fried foods, soy products, soda pop and coffee. All of the above foods deplete your body of vitamins and minerals, stress out your hormone producing organs, and can make your life miserable even though they may taste good. Now the good news. You can eat all the fresh fruits and vegetables you desire! It's summer bounty time, so there's lots of great stuff out there. Make smoothies for breakfast, huge salads to include with lunch and dinner. Relax, have fun, and experiment. There's lots of great recipes to be had now for meat-less, dairy-less meals. Drink lots of filtered or distilled water, and add lemon to it. And add lots of culinary herbs to your meals. They add great flavor plus lots of minerals, which your body needs. Enjoy the process, and it is a process. Lasting change doesn't usually happen overnight. Allow yourself a " binge " day once a month to eat whatever you want. Pretty soon you won't be craving all the junk anymore and want only the good stuff! I have some `female' questions, and am hoping to be pointed in the right direction with herbs/natural products to help me out. In the past I was on and off bc pills (woops! Young didn't realize) and needless to say, they messed me up. Here are now the problems I am dealing with 1) only 30yrs old 2) night sweats with the onset of menses (usually the first 2 nights, but can be SEVERE!) 3) now for menses, spot for an entire week, then regular flow for an entire week, ugh! 4) Major mood swings and bloating during menses I've read that vitex agnus-castus can help women with regulating these sorts of things, so I purchased some tablets, took it for a week, one tab a day, and I was sooo sensitive to heat, and normally I'm cold blood. So, I stopped. I also had purchased some Red Rasberry Leaves in tablet form because I also read that it would stop spotting between cycles. I'm soooo confused! Help! I don't know what to take, how much to take, what form to take, and what to mix and match. Also, my major concern is that in a couple of years after I finish getting my degree in teaching, my husband and I would like to have a baby. How will these herbs affect that? Thank YOU ALL soooo very much for ANY information, truly, deeply. Sincerely, Anna
