Hello all!

I have some `female' questions, and am hoping to be pointed

in the

right direction with herbs/natural products to help me out.

In the past I was on and off bc pills (woops! Young didn't

realize)

and needless to say, they messed me up.

Here are now the problems I am dealing with

1) only 30yrs old

2) night sweats with the onset of menses (usually the first 2

nights, but can be SEVERE!)

3) now for menses, spot for an entire week, then regular flow

for an entire week, ugh!

4) Major mood swings and bloating during menses

I've read that vitex agnus-castus can help women with regulating

these sorts of things, so I purchased some tablets, took it for a

week, one tab a day, and I was sooo sensitive to heat, and normally

I'm cold blood. So, I stopped. I also had purchased some Red

Rasberry Leaves in tablet form because I also read that it would

stop spotting between cycles. I'm soooo confused! Help! I

don't

know what to take, how much to take, what form to take, and what to

mix and match.

Also, my major concern is that in a couple of years after I finish

getting my degree in teaching, my husband and I would like to have a

baby. How will these herbs affect that?

Thank YOU ALL soooo very much for ANY information, truly, deeply.

Sincerely,

Anna

Hi Anna,

First of all - Welcome to your 30's, where weird bodily things start

to happen! LOL!!! ;)

Before you start taking anything - herbal or otherwise, I suggest you

read a book called:

" Taking Charge of Your Fertility: The Definitive Guide to Natural

Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health "

(Revised Edition)by Toni Weschler.

This is not just a book for people trying to get pregnant or avoid

pregnancy. What it does is give you a very good education about what,

EXACTLY goes on during the rather complicated and amazing female

monthly cycle, and how to chart your cycle so the YOU know what is

going on when. You will have an idea of which hormones are surging

when, why, and why they may not be surging when you expect them to.

She also goes over classic patterns of ovulation, anovulation, (and

some not-so classic patterns) and how to chart and recognize these in

yourself. If you are not ovulating, or have a pattern indicative of a

problem, this book will help you learn to determine that too.

Becoming educated about your cycle - truly priceless. I wish I had

had this book from the day I was 16.

In a few years, when you are ready to start trying, you can use this

book again to read up on ovulation timing (though if you read this

book, you will most likely become able to pinpoint your ovulation down

to the moment it happens <g>)and the best times to conceive. As she

points out in the book, many so-called " infertility " problems and

drugs used to treat them can be avoided simply by knowing when YOU

ovulate, not just assuming it's at day 14.

I think it's important to get educated BEFORE you start taking

ANYTHING - herbs, even birthcontrol pills or drugs from the DR. As I

recall, certain herbs like vitex should only be taken at certain times

in your cycle to be effective, maybe someone more familiar with herbs

will jump in and comment on this. But my point is, there's a LOT more

going on " down there " behind the scenes than we realize.

Good luck to you!!!

Hi Anna

I used to have major PMS and bloating and headaches so bad I was out of

commission for a day or two. I started taking evening primrose oil, it

took several months before I got completely over it but could see

gradual improvement each month. But everyone is different and has

different needs. Do you have anyone that could do some energy testing

with you? Another excellent book it the Wisdom of Menopause by

Christaine Northrup. She really goes into alot of detail and alot of

different perspectives including emotions etc.

Hope you find something that works for you soon

Blessings

Joyce
