<chiming in>

We lived in SD for three summers. Summers 1 & 2...no chiggers. Summer

3...chiggers!! And, from my experience, simply not touching the ground might

not spare you. We had a 3' high pool (round blue stock tank that we modified

with a pool filter, truth be told, lol) in the yard. Chiggers seem to love

high places. They surely loved the rim of that pool. I was tempted to get

the magnifying glass out to investigate them further, but...<shrugs>...I

already *knew* what they were. IMHO, they are not one of those things that

justify getting 'bit' by one just for the sake of research. :) I can't

remember what (if anything) I put on the welts, but I did make sure the kids

and I jumped in the tub or shower and scrubbed up after playing in the

yard...tossing our clothes/bathing suits/towels right in the washer...all in

the name of prevention. Seemed to help. :)

Have a wonderful day!

>These things are annoying as all get out and the only way for me to avoid

them at this point is to stay inside and when I do have to get out I simply

must not touch the ground at all.
