Guest guest
yep...I got it - and in the most inconvenient place - on my neck and its inching up over my chin line - its not the horrible bad stuff I usually get, but just the small bumps but boy do they itch itch itch...I've tried just about every oil I have .... and probably did more damage then cure - got frustrated and after slathering myself with my toothpaste concoction (which did feel really cool and good for a few minutes <baking soda, sea salt, peppermint, cinnamon, tea tree oil and eucalyptus>) I went for my old standby - clorox and put that on straight.....OH MY GOD ... I thought I was going to die - after getting all that off - I pretty much think I burned my skin - but not too bad.... so this morning I'm back to putting another old standby - ruligel - and then a bit of lavendar - which of course both only last for a few minutes and then I want to scratch my face off - anyone have ANY HELP out there???? thank you in advance!! Guest guest
Pam, You might have poison oak, usually something that hits the face.., my daughter get's it in her face and it's poison oak. Unless you can find jewelweed really fast, crush the stems and apply the juice to your face, you are going to have trouble and might need a cream from your Doc. For all of you poison ivy sufferers, get jewelweed now, stuff into jars, cover with AC vinegar and keep around. It's really the best cure. No oils etc, it needs to dry out, therefore vinegar is the best menstrum. In a pinch I even would use the 'juice' from the stem of a impatient plant that we have in the garden, they are relatives to jewelweed. Guest guest
Thanks for the tips, C-M! What part of the jewelweed is best to put into the jar, the stems, leaves, both? Mine hasn't started to bloom yet. Do you macerate it first? If so, how would you suggest doing that, like with a food processor or mortar and pestle? Thanks again! Guest guest
My friend had poision ivy 3 weeks ago and used an over the counter remedy called Technu. It is supposed to get rid of all the oil on the surface of the skin very effectively. I make a very strong infusion (let it steep overnight) of jewelweed. After straining it, I pour it into ice cube trays. Once frozen, I pop them out, place them in a freezer bag and store in the back of the freezer. It's bit messy once the cube starts to melt all over, but it sure feels good. Christa Marie, have you found the impatien juice to be very effective? One time I rubbed fresh garden sage leaves on my leg and found that gave me some relief. Not sure why though. Any thoughts? Rosanne

Guest guest
Rosanne, I don't know how effective the impatient juice would be, never had poison ivy myself ( knock on wood), but its a cousin to jewelweed and just might work if in a pinch... Guest guest
I just over a case of poison ivy and it sure can drive you crazy. Rhus Tox is the homeopathic remedy to use. It does work. I used 30c once a day til the itching was reduced but perhaps you could also mix a couple of pellets in 4oz of water stir vigoursly and sip every hour. I know there is a homeopath on the list perhaps he might be able to add to this. Good luck Joyce
Guest guest
OMG I remember having poison ivy, poison oak AND poison sumac all at the same time. I was having fantasies about the sandpaper aisle at home depot!!! The only thing that actually worked for me was going on steroids it was miserable.
