Guest guest
Can anyone recommend what to do? Here are the symptoms: I have had a nagging sore throat and a cough, deep in the throat, for about a week. No major fever, but I have been sweating at night (however it is quite hot here too). Last night my ear was really hurting! I felt like a child with my sore ear! I read one naturpath book, which said to put olbas oil around the ear, which I did. Also I put a heat source (like a hot water bottle) on that side of the head, and I took two tylenol and went to bed. This morning it was not hurting. Every now and then I feel like the ear " tube " is draining a bit inside the throat: I have noticed no discharge from the outside of the ear. Now it's midday and the pain is coming back. Valerie Worwood suggest to put 1 drop of lavender and 1 drop of tea tree in 1 tsp warm olive oil on a cotton and putting it in the ear. I've seen another author suggest pretty much the same thing. I'll try this, but does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm wondering if I need to rush to the doc, or if I can wait, treat myself, and not go if possible? THANKS!! Guest guest
Anne, Worwoods method might work, but if you have mullein flowers to infuse into oil, it will work for sure do not put anything directly into your ear, put it on a cottonball and heat that in a table spoon over the stove ( carefully). However, it sounds like something that went around here, which went also into the respiratory tract and took a good while to get rid of. Hope you get better soon. Guest guest
Anne I use the lavender, tea tree oil. I get ear aches all the time so I have a bottle with it made up for times when it starts feeling achey. Heating pad or herbal hot pad is nice to sleep on when it really is hurting along with some motrin or tylenol. Guest guest
I forgot to add that I put the dropper bottle of my ear oil in warm water to heat up safely before using....I have also added a drop of camomile oil to this too. I am out right now so I just have the other 2 eo. I have allergies so this happens off and on thru the yr for me. Guest guest
Hi, Ive had earaches on and off since I was a child, and I find that mullein and garlic infused into almond, works best. An eyedropper full, for each ear. For relief of earache pain, bake an onion until its mushy, wrap it in a clean cloth, and hold it against the ear - it conforms to the shape, and feels wonderful. The ears, nose and throat are all connected and its likely been a result of your sore throat. If its been a week though, Id see a doctor - there has been some very nasty strep throat going around here. You can make a tea of mullen (which drains the lymphatics in the head) and while its still very hot, drop a couple of drops of peppermint oil into it, put a towel over your head and do an inhalation - when the tea is cool, drink it. - This really helps sore throats. mary Well, Naturally http://www.wellnaturally.com At 01:01 PM 6/16/2004 +0200, you wrote: >Can anyone recommend what to do? > >Here are the symptoms: >I have had a nagging sore throat and a cough, deep in the throat, for >about a week. >No major fever, but I have been sweating at night (however it is quite >hot here too). > >Last night my ear was really hurting! Guest guest
I knew someone had mentioned those...I'll look into them, even though I don't think I can wait the time it would take to get them (I am just sure that no store has them here in France...and anyway...I don't want to go out (pout pout boo hoo!!!) Thanks for the info - I will pick some up this summer in the US. And warmth...I'm realising that helps... Guest guest
That's what two Natural Healing books I have recommend too... I have NO idea what they are, but obviously wish I had some on hand now! I will check them out and see if I have any in the garden... I did the cottonball thing...thanks. And in fact it feels better having it plugged up like that. And yes, I have the feeling that this little virus is enjoying its visit in my body...grrrrr! Thanks!! Guest guest
Hi Helaine Thanks for this... I did get some ibuprofen at the pharmacy, I guess it's better than tylenol because it has an anti-inflammatory in it? And I have the heating pad. And I appreciate the tip about warming the bottle!! I always thought I was a practical person, but sometimes... you should have seen me trying to warm the spoon with the oil in it...(spoon is metal, but then so is the handle...oww! Silly me - I'm just not thinking straight...) Thanks again! Anne > Wed, 16 Jun 2004 06:29:42 -0700 (PDT) > Mottershead Helaine <herbandteas > Anne > I use the lavender, tea tree oil. Guest guest
Hi Mary Thanks very much for all those suggestions. I hadn't even thought of the inhalation... but I am going to have to track down that mullein... In France it's called Molene...and so far I have had two " eh? " s when I've asked locals if they've heard of it... the herboristorie in Paris will know. I read about the onion - that's easy enough to try. Thanks again What a wonderful list this is! Guest guest
Anne, A Apothecary might know mullein by the name of verbascum spp. It should grow in France, for it grows in Germany. C-M
Guest guest
Thanks! She's only 25 lbs. - smallest one yet! I just couldn't say no to that cute face, though! And she licked me when I walked her as if to say, " Thank you! " - Christa Maria Thursday, June 17, 2004 7:44 AM Re: Re: Owwwieeee!!! I have an earache...!
