Hi Akiko,

This is my opinion only *S*: People come to the small town, & love the slow

paced, family friendly atmosphere. Then they go back to the fast paced city &

think they want the small town life. Sell everything, move to the small town.

Oh no, they've been there a couple of months/a year, there's no Walmart, mall,

etc. What to do, what to do??!! Let's bring in a walmart & maybe an outlet

mall - now they don't have to take a weekly/monthly ride to the " big " town down

the road & spend the day driving, shopping, going to lunch/dinner & then return

to the nice quiet town. Along with the walmart comes more people, etc. I live

outside a small town now & have seen what the walmarts do to a town & I

personally don't like it!! I don't like the mom & pop stores being put out of

business or the atmosphere that it tends to bring to the small town. Ok, don't

bite the fingers that typed this - this is my opinion & observations from my

warped little brain *S*

Also, buying a piece of property & building on it made me laugh - we live 5

miles down a county dirt road on 50 acres, our home is all the way on the back

of our property, the driveway is about 1/4+ miles long, we have privacy. But,

good example of what was just mentioned: someone just bought 30 acres - where

did they put their home? Right on the property line so their neighbor has a

good birdseye view of their home & vice versa & on the front of the property.

There are other homes with large acreage & they have built right on the road &

get upset because the road is too dusty when cars drive buy & it gets in the

house - duh!!!

I have a friend in Corvalis - it is a lovely town, I enjoy driving through

it.

Hi Georgia,

Thanks for your opinion. : )

I'm not going to bite your fingers. I love to hear people's opinions and

experiences, so that I can see things from different perspectives, and that

helps me to broaden my mind, and I love it.

I totally agree with you on Walmart and mom and pop store issue. My husband and

I don't like Walmart and fortunately, we don't have one around here. Just

recently, some area in LA rejected Walmart coming into city, too. I understand,

though, Walmart, Target, K mart are great place for college students or young

couple with small kids, or other people with lower income. But it's sad to see

it seems always the same stores, malls, and items everywhere when I'm traveling.

I get so excited when I find a nice, unique, local shop with quality items made

in USA or by real craftmen from other countries rather than sweatshops.

(Actually, that's what we are trying to achieve with our business.)

I don't like to build a house right next to neighbors' or street either. I want

to be able to nag my husband without worrying our neighbors would hear it. ; )

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experiences. I'll remember your words, and try

not to be like that and learn to appreciate a small town life fully. Slow, quiet

life is what we want, after all, so we'll try not to ruin our great experience.
