Kathy: Have you tried peppermint? I love this oil as a pick-me-up,

physically and mentally. I put a drop in my palms, rub and inhale.

Hi Kathy,

Welcome fer'shur. :-)

I'm not sure what you mean by that .. though I have heard the term used

when people sought to use flowery, esoteric terminology to describe the

oils they are marketing. I have been tempted to ask them to put it into

lay person's terms to see if even they are amongst that elite group of

chosen few who understand what they are saying. ;-)

We can say that some oils are very relaxing and calming .. and others

are stimulating or maybe energizing. Lavandula angustifolia and Rosa

damascena (to name a few) being in the first category and Lavandula

stoechas and Rosmarinus officinalis, CT: Cineol being in the latter.

If this is what you mean by energizing .. I understand. I think we have

developed many adjectives in Aromatherapy to describe the effects of EO

that are not universally understood .. and in many cases the ones using

the terms would be hard pressed to explain them .. unless they have near

them a handy-dandy book to quote.

Done and done .. but if you will explain exactly what you are looking

for I might be able to help. :-)

I'm looking for something to make you feel energized/less tired/able to complete

the day. This has to be something to rub or mist on my body as I work in a

nursing home and we can't leave a diffusor out and about for someone to reach/

use in the wrong way. We have some residents who would eat/drink anything. I

once saw a resident put dirt in her mouth just because she thought I wanted it.

Also have a nurse who would like something for anemia. She crunches ice cubes

all day long, she said it is for that reason. Personally it drives me crazy

when she does that. Any help you could give me would be greatly appriecated.

Your nurse friend crunches ice because she is low on iron (hence the anemia).

Sometimes pregnant women (who are more prone to anemia) eat dirt (yes,

literally), paint chips, and other really weird things. This is called " pica "

(pie-ka). Have your friend get some OTC iron pills, and take them daily. An

alternative is to get prenatal vitamins and take them daily. It absolutely will

not hurt you to take prenatal vitamins, no matter the age. In fact, I made my

(then) teenage daughters take them. It provides everything you need and more.

What the body does not use, it sloughs off, anyway. My older daughter's doctor

uses them exclusively (actually, she's a physician assistant). I highly

recommend them for any age, but especially for teenagers. Even if your daughter

screams at you, she will thank you (eventually).

Barb,

From what I understand , too much iron is not sloughed off by the body

but can produce problems..

I use a daily tsp of raw molasses in my oatmeal muesli and that gives

me enough.

Also eat liver every so often and beets.

However, if pregnant, a well formulated Vitamin pill should be taken

anyhow and do the trick.

Ice crunching by itself is not always a sign of anemia, some people

just get addicted to it :)

Be careful about taking TOO much iron. It can cause lots of problems.

It doesn't really just slough off.
