Guest guest
I read on another list (yep - I do read more than one, sorry to burst your bubble) that it is illegal to ship EOs via USPS. I'm curious if anyone has experienced this, as I did some checking into this myself. I don't want to see anyone get into trouble if they are unaware.... There is a major supplier that was fined $65,000 when Eucalyptus EO that they sent priority, broke in transit. The government cracked down on them. Patchouli's flashpoint is high enough but the EO question with the USPS needs to be answered. Peppermint and Litsea and Rosemary are NOT okay for priority transport. Here's the rule of thumb so you know...... Below 100 FP Farenheit - don't ship it. 100 to 140 UPS Ground okay 141 and up okay for international to other countries. Please read from the FAA. The EO that went priority, that broke, was Eucalyptus: http://www.faa.gov/apa/PR/pr.cfm?id=1370 It is my understanding that U.S. regulations forbid sending any essential oils through the mail. All our samples domestically are sent via UPS unless they are classified as hazardous due to flashpoint or other issues. If classified as hazardous, we send via Federal Express as they have a classification for shipping small amounts of haz materials called " Hazardous Goods in Excepted Quantities " . It is possible to ship Federal Express to Norway and, of course, all the U.S. states. So.......since when are EOs hazmat??? Guest guest
The original post was NOT an ad! It was a warning. It has nothing to do with the list rules - it is a Federal Law. Guest guest
I posted the rules listed on the USPS web site about flash points and sending stuff via USPS a few weeks back. I've talked to the folks at the USPS about this kind of thing and the only problem I have had with shipping any EO's is sending them overseas via USPS Global Priority. But they wont ship ANY liquid Global Priority, so .... but they will ship it surface or regular airmail ... As long as it isn't perfume that is alcohol based they don't seem to have a problem with it. I didn't hear about that Eucalyptus incident. When did that happen? Oh, and I have a whole big book from Fed Ex about Hazmat shipping and EO's aren't listed in there ... I personally find the Post Office to be a pain in the keister to work with in many cases! *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com guinness97 [guinness97] Thursday, June 10, 2004 12:31 AM Question for EO Experts I read on another list (yep - I do read more than one, sorry to burst your bubble) that it is illegal to ship EOs via USPS.
