But.......... > >>We can't kill a virus but we can make it wanna go into retrograde by >>doing all we can to increase our weakened immune system. > > Okay, so when we say an eo is antiviral, what exactly does that mean? > Are we talking antiviral in a petri dish, but not in the body? Some invivo and invitro tests are reported to have shown that Oregano is death on Viruses. To say one believes that depends on how much caution they wish to exercise. I prefer to NOT make strong claims of ANYTHING except maybe UV light, oxygen and cold temperatures as being effective anti viral conditions as they are the only ones that are universally proven and accepted as being so .. and they are almost instant death to the most dangerous viruses .. to include Ebola. As stated above, there are some so-called scientific studies showing that certain EO, moreso Oregano, causes a collapse of the structure of a virus .. thus, preventing it from replicating. This might be accurate information but to date no great amount of follow up research has been conducted .. and I believe this is because to announce that something as simple as an inexpensive natural product can kick virus butts would be disastrous to the multi-buck, multi-national pharmaceutical industry as well as forcing medical doctors to do more work because now some of call anything they can't identify a viral infection .. and they know that antibiotics are not effective against viruses but since they aren't sure what the problem is anyway, they prescribe a general antibiotic with wide reaching effects. Do I believe that Oregano EO (carvacrol) can stop a viral infection? Damn betcha I do .. there is NO WAY all the bugs I picked up since 1996 were microbial .. especially when I had CLOSE contact with folks when infectious viral problems were knocking the population out in the city I'm living in. BUT .. I have NOT been ill longer than 36 hours in ANY CASE .. and in most cases I kicked Big Bad Bug Butts in 18-24 hours. Is that enough to pass the smell test of science? Nope! But neither is the existence of a Supreme Being. Even the Origin of Life is in some part speculation cause the blank spaces are filled in with guesswork. I believe that Oregano EO can and does cause viruses (at least those I have come into contact with) to stop replicating .. and I believe it does much to help my immune system to strengthen itself. I knew when I allowed my immune system to slip a notch or two .. 4-5 times since 1996 that happened .. and I felt guilty about it but under the conditions of the time I was just not able to do a lot about it. And almost without exception, I got bit in the butt during those times!!! > Or are these anti-viral in the sense that they stimulate the immune > system to do the job? I gave my opinion above .. but to further clarify .. it is during those times that our immune system is low .. our defenses are down .. that the enemy is most likely to attack and most able to defeat. >>Good luck .. and may the tough times pass quickly. :-) Butch > > Thank you, I am sure this will become a memory as soon as the > next crisis comes along! I will not forget him .. and I did all I could in times past to ensure my children understood his accomplishments and will not forget him. I'm not disagreeing with you Butch, but many times a virus weakens the immune system and leaves the door open for a secondary bacterial infection. And often it's the symptoms of that secondary bacterial infection that you see, and that are more dangerous than the virus itself. So in those cases, anti-biotics are prescribed. Or oregano JenB
