Guest guest
Did anyone catch it last night on 20/20? GREAT theme. Great ads. Kudos to the advertising company that created them. They've excused themselves from further association after the Bush administration nixed the campaign. Government says the stats in the ads were not only inaccurate but unproven. They have the AAP to back them up. Yet, the consultant on the ads is a former AAPer and says the stats ARE proven and ARE accurate. Who is being blamed? The formula makers for lobbying so hard in order to keep their businesses alive the money coming in. They ended the segment with a beautiful shot of a nursing babe and a parting shot that it's our kids who ultimately feel the consequences. Guest guest
You know when ever I see or hear things like this I get so angry I wanted so badly to nurse my son back in the early 60`s but the Dr kept telling me I should give him formula it would be so much better for him and he was so fussy he kept saying this was why and to put him on formula, back then you thought Doctors knew everything and to listen to them I was just a kid myself and did, and now I don`t listen to any Dr haven`t been to one in twenty years I might die early because I don`t go but at least they won`t kill me with there medicines. just blowing off steam Sandra in beautiful green Tn - " Dale Bernucca " <DBernucca Saturday, June 05, 2004 10:16 AM Ad Council Breastfeeding Campaign > Did anyone catch it last night on 20/20? Guest guest
Greetings to All: I am new here--hello to everyone. I just wanted to chime in. I missed this, too. I just had my third child--a boy named Auden (after the poet, W. H. Auden)--he is now 5 months old. I am nursing him; I nursed all my kids. I have 'skimmed' the surface of information on the things that the formula industry does in order to maintain their unbelievable cash flow. When an industry does everything possible to change the mind set of something so natural and turn it into a 'lifestyle choice'. The dairy industry is in on it, too, I believe. It's just fine to give your baby/older child cow's milk--it's good for them, blah, blah, blah...but we have this beautifully nicely packaged, convenient (bottles at 3:19 A.M.?) 'formula'--why bother with all that breast feeding stuff? Now more than ever they are trying to convince mothers that formula is just as good as breast milk due to 'research' and added 'nutrients that are found in breast milk'. An obvious attempt to combat the research showing that breast milk is the ideal food and formula running a poor and last fourth method to feed a baby (according to WHO). Never mind that they'll never be able to duplicate ALL of the nutrients in breast milk. What really shocked me the most is how much money these companies are raking in. For every dollar collected, these companies only spend about $0.16 to make this product. What other industry has that kind of profit margin? It made me sad because to the majority of these folk, that kind of money will never be able to compete with the welfare of any baby. Hmm, rather obvious that I feel very passionate about that, huh? Thanks for dropping that info about the Ad Council--is this a commercial or something that will be shown regularly? Have a good evening everyone and thanks for letting me vent (getting hot enough to curdle my milk!) Chito Genie Mama, Drae
