When I hear about people putting oils, peroxide, etc, any liquids into

ear, I've got to admit, I always cringe a bit..

Putting the drops on a cotton ball seems a little safer route to go..

For what might be a 'bit' to me, might be ' too much' for other people...

Putting something directly into an ear needs to be done with caution

and much common sense.

My grandma would heat a few drops of oil in a spoon over the stove and

than swish it up with a cotton ball, when the underside of the spoon was

comfortable to touch, she would put the cotton into my ear.

Years ago, when I broke my ankle and was waiting in the local ER to be

casted, a friend I knew, was in the other cubicle.

Of course we talked about why we where there . Well, she had stuck a

clove of garlic into her ear and could not get it out...:) Had read some

where how garlic was a good antibiotic, so she tried to treat herself to

the cure..

Mind you this friend has a Ph.d. and is no dummy...

We always warmed the olive oil and out on a cotton ball too. I still do it for

my kids. I get ear aches a lot, but growing up, we couldn't afford to go to the

doctor much.

Hey y'all,

That is perzackly what the doctors explained to me about my younguns in

years past .. they too swam in creeks and lakes .. just as I did when I

was a yonker .. cept'in docs didn't know all that good stuff back when I

was young .. best as I can recall. And I had such problems on a routine

basis .. that I do remember .. as well as remembering my son and oldest

daughter having them.

Ear drops with Cortisone was what the docs prescribed .. best as I can

recall .. that was some years back. We would warm the drops up before

putting them in. My kids often said that they heard a " pop " like sound

and then the drainage started.

Kids back home still get such problems .. cause kids back home still see

the lakes and creeks as being the place to have fun in summer.
