Weight vs. Fluid measurement

It's hot and hellacious in Miami today. Ditto for yesterday, so I've been

inside, tearing the kitchen apart for cleaning, mopping the entire house,

etc. Had a little free time, so here's a bit I copied from the Lebermuth

catalog, to illustrate the discussion Chris B started (a professional

perfumer on my natural perfumery group) about how the industry uses weight,

not fluid ounces, to determine quantity. We had a discussion about how

aromatherapy, the newbie in the field of aromatics, has a bit of catching

up to do, since so many still use fluid measurements, instead of weight

when measuring oils.

It is amazing how the oils can vary, so if you order an ounce of myrrh, and

the bottle you get is an ounce bottle, but the contents don't fill it, just

remember the message on potato chip bags: item is packed by weight, not

volume, and contents may settle in travel :-)

The following is noted as " fluid ounces per pound. "
