Guest guest
Hi Mary My dog developed hot spots when she was a small puppy and our (homeopathic) vet indicated it was due to a bad flea infestation. He said normally dogs can cope with fleas because they continually jump on and off the dog and don't usually cause a problem. But some times of year and certain conditions will give rise to an infestation. She's a border collie and apparently it's one of the breeds that is more susceptible to hot spots. She has been fed the " Bones and Raw Food " (BARF) diet from a young age, has very limited dried food and has never eaten tinned dog food in her life. But this diet would be very high in protein. > >Hot spots are also known as protein bumps. Caused by far too much protein > >in a diet. But I'm wondering about dogs in the wild. The BARF diet is loosely based on what they'd eat in the wild, which would be largely protein. > never heard that...will ask my d-i-l the Vet.... I'll look forward to what Marge's d-i-l the Vet has to say - it'd be interesting to find out if there were a whole host of other causes that we mightn't be aware of.
