Guest guest
Hey Michele, > I must agree to disagree with the replies to this post!! I am a born > and raised in the USA citizen and have been here for 44 yrs. I have > seen this country grow and evolve into another that I was not raised > in. Society is totally different and I DON " T LIKE IT!! Kids from > this generation are DUMBED DOWN from the public school system , have > NO respect for theirselves, thier elders or thier families. They > don't want to work and they want, want, want or else!! It's pathetic, > and the government and a society of people have let it become that. Agree. :-) Well said .. but unfortunately, this is a price paid by ALL societies (throughout history) who chose to move toward the so-called enlightened modernity. Of the 22 great civilizations that have appeared in history, 19 of them collapsed when they reached the moral state America is in today .. said Arnold Toynbee .. who died in 1975 .. and didn't know then that the worst was yet to come. Wonder what he would have thought about the exercise of freedom displayed at the Super Bowl when Janet Jackson's tit became the main attraction? > As a business owner in a small town and in a big city years ago... > I see imagrants willing to work more and harder than Americans... > I'm embarresed. Yep .. for many of them its the hope they have had that hard work and being sorta frugal could actually get them ahead in life. > I married a Greek man who came here 28 years ago on the boat into > New York, spoke NO English had meager possessions and got off that > boat picked up a newspaper and could not read it. That .. is the history of America. But ... > He realized he must learn our language and our customs in order to > make a living or to become well-established in this country. In other words .. he assimilated .. he did not ask the country to change for him .. he did what he had to do to make it in this " new world. " And that .. to me .. is what makes America great. We are all immigrants and many of us maintain out old customs while embracing the customs of our new home .. our new world. > He did all that in 4 years and now has dual citizenship. He too thinks > that if you come to this country b/c you don't like what your > government does in your counnty or for what ever reason...you HAVE to > adapt to our launguage and customs. Amen Brother Ben .. shot a rooster and killed a hen. ;-) My ex-wife came here in better shape in 1967 .. she WAS Turkish .. she is NOT now. She is more American than I am and even though we are divorced I still respect her and her accomplishments. She assimilated well. > If we were to go to another country and fluant and demand our customs we > could eventually be killed or considered of " NO CLASS " as in a non- > exsistant people. you will get no respect from the people of that > country and i'm not saying it is like that all over the world..... Damn betcha on that one .. most of the idealists have not had to live in those countries .. I have .. many of them. European, African, Middle and Near Eastern .. and a few years in SW Asia. I have much experience with Islamists .. and with Moslems .. with snotty nationalistic folks in Europe .. and with kind and tolerant folks in Europe .. but in NONE of those countries can one expect them to bend to us. If we are tourists we might be tolerated .. even when we come as guests the major cultural differences MIGHT be overlooked .. but there comes a time when the honeymoon is over and we must learn their language and culture or expect to be ostracized .. and they are NOT wrong to see it like that. > don't take my words out of context but it is like that in most places. Count on someone doing that .. its a way of dealing with issues on high school debating teams, in political discussions and on aromatherapy lists. ;-) > You have to adapt and they will not change their laws, scrolls, > beliefs...nothing for us. That is a 100% gar-an-tee .. nor should they change .. nor should we do this for those who want to be Americans. > I think we accommadate non-americans well enough for them to get > settled and learn the customs but that isn't enough they want to > make thier own little counrty with thier own customs and keep us > ......thats not right. True it is that America welcomes the new folks .. the Green Card holding folks .. with open arms. And most of them .. maybe 95% of them .. do assimilate well .. they want to do this. Its the other small group that the liberals lean toward but I don't think its really because a liberal is any more altruistic than a conservative .. its just that they want to see change .. and there are not many areas of American society that can never be changed so they go for the broom straws in the water. > This is OUR country Which .. includes those who wish to see it that way .. the newcomers. > and if you come here you need to adapt or go back home and my husband > and I both feel that way. Most of the newcomers feel that way too. > I have traveled to Europe on many occasionas ...especially in this > day and age....I wouldn't brag that I was an American..... Some folks will jump on that statement like a duck on a June Bug. But for all the wrong reasons. > they won't change for us unless thay want something from us. Amen Brother Ben .. shot a rooster and killed a hen. ;-) > I don't think it is fair for the government to issue a business > liscence to a person who can't speak or understand English. They will do that in most countries .. but in most countries they demand that the Responsible Manager speak the language .. and in many cases they demand that person be a local. > Almost every gas station or convienence store I go to has a man who can't > speak English let alone understand it. The motels and stop-and-shop enterprises go deeper than you can imagine. Its sorta a gummit conspiracy .. not Republican or Democrat .. its a part of a process of cultural evolution that sorta got out of hand. > It is frustrating and demeaning to ME!! Frustrating it is at times. > I think it is wonderful to have a diverse nation and we can teach our > children other languages and differnt cultures, but don't ask us (USA) > to change the principles and value system that the country was bulit > on b/c someone that came here is offended. I'm offended by the way > they treat me in other countries. But " I " have to adapt to thier > ways not visa versa....WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE PEOPLE!!! Michele .. those who feel offended know how the coffee smells .. but they are not going to come off their position any quicker than a Jew will convert to Islam .. or vice versa. This is the way of Liberals and Conservatives .. though there are some in the middle who call themselves eclectics .. and many of them really are .. they might smell it. > We won't have the USA any more if we continue to make all these changes > and accomadations for them. Agree .. and we are moving toward a peaceful social revolution now. > We will end up breaking into countires almost like the European > Nation if things continue this way!! That is not going to happen .. nor are we going to lean toward their way of thinking in many other areas. It all has to do with from where we came and why and regardless of how many folks want to change it there is no way it can happen. > The USA offers alot for non-Americans and if you want what we have bad > enough you will just have to adapt. We have to stand by our soul and > blood line of this country. Its our culture that developed over many years we must honor .. our blood line is difficult to determine. > That dosen't mean we can't have others share that with us. Those others are a part of " us " .. if they want to be. > I could just go on and on but I think I have made my points. And glad you did .. cause I was hesitating to comment .. hoping it would go away .. but not ready to see a lot more dumping on Deonia because she sent a post that disturbed some folk's noggins. > I don't think the USA excludes anyone it's what they do with the > resources they have that makes the differnce. And the USA government > and all it's taxpayers PAY for ALL those resources. Governments are necessary evils .. but they have no means of generating cash except through taxing .. so its the taxpayers who foot the bills. The whole thing is a political ballgame .. and politicians by nature are devious creatures .. they march to the sound of the guns as long as they can ensure they don't personally get harmed. Good it would be if we had a wise president who maybe toward the end of his/her first term in office decided they didn't wanna run again .. wonders we would see. > (this messege not spell-checked) I detected that you were typing sorta fast. ;-) > ~Peace~ > Michele Seretis > http://www.thesoapgardenboutique.com These differences in opinion could continue for years and eat up all the band width on .. and we would get nowhere quick except to allow a few folks to proselytize .. and for some reason many liberals seem to associate themselves with the enlightened masses .. and many of them see the conservatives as being knuckle dragging critters. I think the point of Deonia's post can be overlooked due to the presentation. I do not like the presentation of that particular article .. I've seen it a dozen times and though I am a conservative its a bit too far right for me .. at least, in the presentation. I don't see it as offensive for the same reasons stated by those who claim it is offensive. Tolerance is the name of the game .. and that includes tolerance for things that might disturb personal snakes we have in our heads. I have little tolerance for extremism of any type. As an American conservative I tolerate American liberals .. but I find anti-American Americans to be offensive .. still I tolerate them because they know not what they do. ;-) I find the idea of America adapting Socialism to be offensive .. matters not what clothing we put on it and how we try to spruce it up with fancy terms like Social Democracy and the like .. but I tolerate it. In time it will prove to be a successful form of government .. or it will fail. Social systems do not stand still for too long anyway .. history proves that over and over again. Its a process of revolution .. not evolution. I mean revolution in .. revolving .. not take over by the masses, etc. To my way of thinking today .. Socialism is the political economy of communism and it has shown to not be a viable form of government. On the religious issues. Some folks think that the U.S. Constitution provides for separation of church and state .. they think its in the First Amendment. But it is not. The First Amendment states, " Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. " It doesn't talk about separate of church or state. But .. the Congress and the Courts routinely violate the First Amendment. The intent of the First Amendment was to prohibit a single denomination in exclusion of all others, whether it was Anglican, Catholic or what ever .. of course .. the idea that Islam and some other Eastern types of religions might show up was not considered then .. not so important. If folks want to see how many countries HAVE Official State Religions they can check it out at the below URLs .. and if you want to go a bit further you can find a lot of info on Official State Languages. America is not one of them .. though we do have 23 states and one territory that have passed laws to officially designate a state language. http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/List%20of%20official%20languages http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/List%20of%20countries%20where%20langua\ ge%20is%20a%20political%20issue Do I have a problem with Spanish being the second language of the USA? Hell no! Fine it is with me, they border us and English is the second language of Mexico .. I have worked there. Do I have a problem with giving special consideration to those whose native language is Spanish but refuse or unable to learn English? Hell yes I do! Creating a US State Driver's License Exam for a single person who sued and was granted relief by an ultra-liberal court system makes my butt want to chew tobacco. Not another country in the entire world would even consider such an action. That is but one of many examples I am sure you all are aware of. I truly believe in Equal Opportunity. Equal opportunity means everyone will have a fair chance at being incompetent. ;-) We know where the problems are in America .. its not just liberals but its the cultivation of the idea of victimhood by intellectuals (right and left), and tort lawyers, and politicians and the media .. they are the cause and effect of today's invalid culture of complainers. I was raised a Christian but I am not a Christian now .. nor Moslem. Most folks would snicker at my beliefs but that too is because they know not what they do. Even so .. this country was founded on the principles of Christianity .. as were England and some other European countries who still hold on to those founding principles. Patrick Henry, Patriot and Founding Father of our country said, " It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on " religions, " but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ " . But he was just a man for his time .. we are smarter now. ;-) James Madison, the fourth president, known as " The Father of Our Constitution, " stated " We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God. " And .. even though the American Constitution and most European Common Law (some Europeans countries have no written constitution) was and still is based on the general rules on conduct contained in the Ten Commandments .. some judges have ruled against showing them in public places .. which is really beyond their Constitutional right as it was never perceived that judges would MAKE law .. they interpret it. Thomas Jefferson worried that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law would begin making law.. create an oligarchy.... the rule of few over many. He was a wise man .. but then maybe he is seen as stupid in light of today's liberal attitudes. :-( The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay, said, " Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers. " But we all know that Supreme Court Justices put on their pants the same way we do. ;-) Since 1777, every session of Congress begins with a prayer by a preacher who is paid by the taxpayer .. so there are a few double standards. Is everything we have done since the founding this country now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional? Were we mislead by the Founding Fathers? Watch the politicians. No politician messes with the Jews. They know which side their bread is buttered on .. so maybe its all about proper organization and contributing to the proper lobbies. ;-) I don't care if whatever religion wants to do whatever in public or private to celebrate as they see fit as long as it does not materially harm the life, liberty and property of others .. and that does include my right to practice as I see fit. As for it harming the sensitivities of those who disagree .. they should toughen up of be prepared to live the life of a wimpering wimp! There are groups in place now ready for them to join. Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch American By Birth ** Southern By The Grace Of Gawd ** Patriot By Choice
