Guest guest
I've been wanting to make my own, but don't have many of the EOs recommended. I do have lavender, and patchouli (which I saw recommended somewhere). I think that's all I have of the ones recommended. The others I have (in case someone recognizes one that would work) are: jasmine (unfortunately it's the NOW brand with synthetic fragrance as well, if that makes a difference), tea tree, cardamom, lemon, rosemary, sandalwood, and I think that's it (yeah, my collection is small). Do you all think I'd still be able to make a bug repellent with those two, or would it not work? Usually I see citronella and eucalyptus, sometimes cedarwood in recipes, and those are usually the ones I see across the board no matter what recipe it was, so I was thinking maybe those were the essential ingredients without which the bug stuff just wouldn't work? Obviously I'm a little nervous about putting a scent on and heading out into bug country since so many scents ATTRACT bugs. I'd hate to use the wrong one!! I'd like to mix it up into my sunscreen maybe; I'm taking an outdoor painting class and am tired of the bugs (they seem to like oil paint? Weird. They get in my painting and I have to pick them out, I had a bee drown in my cup of linseed oil/mineral spirits the other day...). I have OFF spray, but I don't like putting it ON me (it stinks, and nasty chemicals and such). I spray my easel, as I've seen recommended, but it doesn't seem to help. Plus, I am an EO addict, so I'm all about making my own. Any tips? Thanks!! -K
