One note on your other post .. I wish to clarify .. you wrote:

Good show on the company your personality keeps. ;-) But I think we

must all be careful to NOT avoid controversial subjects for fear of

upsetting someone. If we do avoid them then the level of learning is

low and we all wind up looking like little doggies in the back of the

car .. all nodding our heads and such .. and the list will become very

boring with no learning or behavioral change whatsoever.

 

I did not mean to insinuate that you or anyone else on this list needs

to be spoon fed .. but I did mean that we cannot expect to find a single

source document that will answer the questions we have in this industry.

And I do mean that civilized people around the world have become groomed

to think as they are led to think .. we can deny that the media directs

our thinking but we might be fooling ourselves by denying it. This is

also true for critics and critiques .. on this list .. a few months ago,

we had discussion on Mel Gibson and the movie of Jesus .. there were two

completely diverse reviews of this movie .. and on this list there were

two completely diverse interpretations of the events to come as the

movie had not yet been shown (best as I can recall) .. but now, you all

can see what has happened with that movie .. and I am sure those who

have seen it have a very strong opinion one way or the other .. and its

not based on the reviews that had created opinions PRIOR to the showing

of the movie. I have not seen it yet .. but many of my Moslem friends

here in Turkey have and I am told .. and have read in the Turkish Daily

News .. that there were few dry eyes in the movie theater. ;-)

Agree on the continuing to learn .. but there are FEW subjects that can

be brought up that will not cause differences in opinion .. or maybe

even contention .. which unto itself is not a bad thing. Arguments and

disagreements depend on points of contention .. without them there is no

meat to the delivery. Learning to disagree without being disagreeable

is a worthy goal for all folks .. those who cannot disagree without

being disagreeable bring to mind the derivative of the word contention,

which is contentious .. and that methinks is not good. :-)

 

But .. I heard a wise man say one time .. he said that content was also

a derivative .. or maybe the others come from this .. or a lack thereof.

Hard to say I reckon .. chicken or the egg? ;-)

Yes'm .. welcome fer'shur .. glad you decided to join the list a while

back .. and glad I am that this list has moved from 506 folks the latter

part of December to around 700 now .. and still growing .. so I reckon

the list members .. and the Yankee List Mama .. gotta be doing something

right. ;-)
