On the subject of tongues, I have a really interesting one.

I have a patient that has a tongue that looks like a mosaic. The entire top

of the tongue has both horizontal and vertical lines less than 1/8” apart

with a neat border about ¼” from the sides. Of course the sides are somewhat

swollen and have teethmarks. Some of the squares have a slight white then

coat, but most have no coat at all.

The coloring is mostly purplish with some pink but it is broken up with the

lines.

I had asked her if she had ulcer or sore gums or indigestion or any other

stomach fire signs, but she denied them all.

Other s/s

56 years old

Her main complaint is a painful knee and heel. No other pain.

Weepy-lots of grief (recently widowed)

Very Obese-

Post nasal drip

Always hot (post menopause)

Poor memory and concentration

After many weeks of treatment, she said she suddenly remembered having her

tongue hurt her when she was younger.

I see someone with this kind of tongue also.

Swollen, a bit deviated, purplish, many cracks- transverse and longitudinal,

no coating.

She's in her 80s;, anemic, hx of heart disease and gall bladder dz.

Also hx of suicidal tendencies, severe depression because her friends have

all passed on.

Current picture: very particular about everything; everything in order,

picky with food,

irregular bm, poor appetite, insomnia

bright white complexion, low groaning sound voice

Pulse: moderate, steady; cun and guan pulses: bowstring (thin with

amplitude), chi pulses: deep, weak

Similar to your patients in two aspects: severe grief and poor memory and

concentration
