Guest guest
I am graduating soon and would like to gain some experience before building my own practice. It seems that the schools now train us, prepare us for private practice only and I was wondering if anyone knew of other options/opportunities post-graduation to get some experience w/o starting a private practice. I have a strong interest in hospital work but that is a very limited venue that will not likely pan out enough opportunity just after graduation, though I will continue to try. Also, not many acus are looking to take a new grad on into their practice, understandably, as they have worked hard for the patients that they have. Any Suggestions? Guest guest
One of my colleagues has an enviable hospital job. Last week we talked about how much work she put into creating that position for herself. She volunteered, she hung out with administrators, gave free lectures and she offered realistic plans after many years of cultivating ideas. She really wanted to do what she is doing and she is now doing it. I'm not saying that everyone has to do this way but I know I am lazy enough to wait for an ad to appear in the paper. Her plan seemed to have worked better. doug Chinese Medicine , " jenleonard64 " <jleonard6 wrote: > > I am graduating soon and would like to gain some experience before building my own > practice. Guest guest
THanks Doug. I am willing to do that kind of promotion for myself and the medicine, I just hope to find the opportunity to do it. I am already trying to figure out how to get a foot in the door @ a hospital and then trying to create the job, seeing as how no hospital advertises or really even thinks of such positions. Any idea how she got her foot in the door? jennifer > > One of my colleagues has an enviable hospital job. Guest guest
I'm not sure why you would think Hospitals are a limited venue. So many Hospitals without acupuncturists would make it an unlimited one. To enter into the hospital you will definately need to learn to speak their language. You must be able to break down acupuncture biochemically (sucks, but true) and they will listen to you. Remember, you want to join them, don't expect them to go the extra mile and learn and comprehend Chinese Medical terminology. Not asking is worse than getting a " No. " Kelvin Chinese Medicine , " jenleonard64 " <jleonard6 wrote: > > I am graduating soon and would like to gain some experience before building my own > practice. Guest guest
Hi Jennifer, I also know a woman who is working in a hospital. Long before she graduated, she found a receptive doctor who helped her get into the hospital. Initially, she was treating patients only with Reiki, I believe. After she was licensed, she was offering treatments for free at the hospital, and after much time, she was able to practice there. I'm not sure what her arrangement is with the hospital. She spent about 2 years setting this up for herself before she graduated. Good luck, jenleonard64 <jleonard6 wrote: I am willing to do that kind of promotion for myself and the medicine, I just hope to find the opportunity to do it. Guest guest
Just hearing that there are other people who are making headway is encouraging. Kelvin, you seem to feel that there are many acus in hospitals around the country- where else besides CA? I am sure my not hearing about them is due to my newness of being in this profession, and am happy to hear that it isn;t an outlndish thought. I guess I will just have to work on my approach to the docs. I have experience speaking their languange so I will take the advice given and use the languange they know.
