Guest guest
Anyone had an email / exchange like the following? Seems awfully similar to Nigerian-style scams. Seemed legit until the large sum of money got mentioned. Check it out. Be warned - looks like they are trolling for gullible professionals now. -Ben ***** Hello, I am Bxxxxxx Cxxxxx . I saw your contact on the NCCAOM website. Anyway, I am an English speaking man from Cotonou . I will be coming over to the US, Cortez, CO precisely, from 20th of May to 3rd of June with my wife. Myself and my wife have been smoking for years now and we have always heard that Acupuncture can help us quit as we have tried so many ways to quit smoking but it seems impossible so we are willing to have sessions if for nothing but to at least try it if it will work I will want to know if you can offer your services at these dates, I'll also want to know if you offer home services as that is what she'll want, if you do, I will appreciate if I can get a price quotation As we want to make advance payments before our visit so we can be rest assured . An early response will be appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon. Bxxxxx [2nd email]: Hello Ben, Thanks so much for the response, it really was appreciated and very explicit enough. In fact when I told Kelly about it, she really could not believe it, she was over-joyed , apparently we had thought it would take such a long time to get someone to help us, so we are really pleased at your offer. Besides, this is her first trip to the US and she's really looking forward to it. Regarding the payment, we had already made prior arrangements and we had already made payments, but it seems they have always been too expensive, as they have always been over-charging us. I already paid $3,000 to him. So I must tell you that I am really pleased at your price. Please I will want to know the number of sessions we can have in 2 weeks (I'm thinking of about 6 sessions, 3 each week ), and the total cost for the entire duration, so I can arrange payment, I have asked for my earlier arrangement to be canceled and as such will ask for a Cashier's Check or Money Order to be sent to you for payment as they are as good as cash. In the light of this, I will appreciate if you can let me have the following information so the Cashier's Check or Money Order will be sent to you , the amount on it is going to be more than your price because we had already paid more but not to worry all you'll need do is to deduct your amount and send the rest to me. If this is ok by you, please let me have these information so the payment can be sent; FULL NAMES( AS YOU WILL WANT IT TO APPEAR ) COMPLETE MAILING ADDRESS PHONE NUMBER I'll want to get this payment part settled soon as I work on an Oil Rig and when I am Offshore it's really hard to access the internet. I will be going offshore later today and I will not be back till about a few day before the trip and I'll want everything in place before I come back, hope you understand? Thanks so much for your willingness and readiness to work with us, we really appreciate it. Have a wonderful day ok, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you soon. Guest guest
This is an old scam. I guess they figured out a new angle. When I put my daughters car up for sale on craigslist, I got about 4 of these. They wanted to overpay for the car to be shipped to them. I offered for them to pay me through paypal and never heard from them again. Go on craigslist and hit the for sale page and you will see more information on the money order/cashier check scam. Guest guest
Hi Ben, I have been the target of an email scam this past year, but it was different from this one. They found me through my internet listing (which I have since cancelled) of alternative health professionals managed by Psychology Today. In essence, they scheduled a large number of treatments for a short period of time during which they would be here, asked me what it would cost me, and then said they would send me a check in advance of their arrival. They did, and it was for $5000 in excess of what they would have owed me. They they contacted me in a frantic email stating their assistant accidentally sent me all their life's savings, and would I be so kind as to send the overage to them via Western Union. Mind you, the initial contact was from France, the check was postmarked from a college in Massachusetts, the check was drawn on a Texas bank, and they wanted me to send the balance to them in China! I contacted the bank on the check and learned that they've been the victim of this scam for a number of years. I forwarded all my information to the Secret Service. I was suspicious of this guy for several weeks, and drew him in with questions over time, because if it turned out to be a scam, I wanted to make it as likely as possible that he would get caught. Beware of these folks. If it smells fishy, make sure it isn't a fish. Or however that saying goes! " Cortez Family Acupuncture, Inc. Guest guest
My poor son, without my knowledge, packed up all his video games and x box, sent them off to a Nigerian address in return for an alleged paypal payment of 550.00, never received. Package shipped, couldn't be traced. Big scams out of Nigeria, no enforcement of any kind. Guest guest
Many of my friends listed through Integrative Yoga Therapy have also been getting these scams as well, a couple even received phone calls. Have to be cautious! They've even had someone they think from the Psychiatry community calling with very probing questions about how we deal with emotional issues in a yoga therapy setting about 5 people nationwide getting the exact same calls...
