Dizzines, vertigo treatment

My step father, age 88, had a tumor of a throat, it was removed,

and a prostate enlargement was terping. These diseases were treated

and medications were prescribed.

Dizziness and vertigo appeared worse which he could not stand nor

moved, nor turning his head slightly. Sometimes he must be

hospitalized twice a week and he must visited his family physician

almost 3-4 times a week. This care was time consuming. He was on every

test and exam ( MRI, Xray, Blood test, neurological test, physical

test, hearing test, visual test, EKG test, urine test, cranial test...

), everything seems normal " negative " . However, his blood pressure

was fluctuating sometimes from 50/40 to 210/98. He often turned very pale.

All medications were stoped for a while, but his dizziness and blood

pressure remained. His family doctor and Emergency doctors pronounced

that he must live with this, there is nothing they could do better.

I never treated him for he did not believe in Acupuncture ( usually

the family members do not believe in my practice anyway ). Beside, I

am afraid that if I made one mistake, the hospital or all doctors

would shift a blame on me. THis was going on for at leat 8 months I

felt exhausted by bringing him to the doctor and hospital. One day I

asked : Let me take a look at your pulse and see why nobody could find

out your illness.

Upon the pulse : strong, fast, wiry, floating on both side ... in

all levels float, middle and deep were very strong with pressure.

There were no sign of warm or cold sensation. Pale face, normal

moisture, light pink tongue, thin coat...... NO pain anywhere, good

appetite, difficult sleeping because of dizziness, but he wanted to

close his eyes all times. Normal stool, regular urination, very alert

and brilliant. This case I thought he may not survive for long, but I

want to try.

After taking pulse and diagnosis, I claimed : I will buy you some

herbs, you should take them. You have no choice! I can not take you to

the hospital or doctors like this. I suggest you should see some

acupuncturists and give your selves a chance. He did not say anything

and not seeing acupuncturist which disappointed me.

I said you should take these herbs, in pills, and you must feel

better in a week, blood pressure will be stablized and then you can go

on enjoying your life. THere is no other way.

I gave him Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan and instructed him to take 20 pills

each time, twice a day. He resisted, take only 10 the first day,

dizziness got worse. I raised my voice, it must be 40/ day or nothing.

I will not take care of you from now. He increased 20/ day. I told him

I do not understand you why should I worry about this.

Everytime he took Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan, his dizziness got worse. He

was afraid, but I insisted : You must follow my instruction. After 7

days, his dizziness completely disappeared, almost 4 days. I must

follow this case. I advised him, you need some more to take good care

of you. THis is problem will return because you had not followed my

advice................

HI Bill,

Yesterday, my father again had dizziness all day as I expected. This

time I think he would consider to have acupuncture treatment.

Why did I choose Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan ? It sounded ridiculous, isn't

it? Based upon the pulse diagnostic and symptoms this case would be

excess fire, wind, damp or phlegm. However, I looked at different

angle. Here are some keys : The patient is 88 years old. We all

would expect weak, fragile, slow, don't we? The pulse should appear

according to the age, the appearance, but opposite

If the pulses do not appear according to the entire image of the

patient, it is a severe or difficult case and this is a critical

condition. This is my definition! Dizziness appeared to be severe but

it was a chronic condition. A chronic condition is a deficiency. This

must be a severe deficiency condition which might generate the severe

symptoms " acute or excess " .

Why the pulses are strong and floating? All energy gathered rushing

up and out to the surface to fight " invaders, viruses " something.

This, I called Qi disorder, not rebelling. This Qi does not know what

it is doing? It thought there is something outside always trying to

invade the body, so it is trying to protect its home. Pulse is fast

and wiry : Fast because they are fighting " infection may cause fast

pulse " , gathering all energy up to fight. Wiry because there are some

stagnation ( tense, tightness, some bumpy roads ) somewhere. Wiry may

be viewed as too much pressure again the artery " as wind " .

If our Qi is not self-regualting or harmonizing, our brain may not

receive enough nutrient ( Blood, Oxygen, minerals ) and dizziness may

appear.

To summarize : Our defense mechanism ( WBC, T cells, T4 , T8 ,

hormones and electrolyte ) and our nutrient ( RBC ) are coming from

the bone marrow " the kidneys " .

If I tonify Kidney Yin " Liu Wei Di Hoang Wan " , this may not work

as quickly I as expect because of too much Yin. I chose Jin Gui Shen

Qi Wan because I needed some fire. Only fire can change the whole

thing quickly, disintergrate the chemical substances and oxidize

everything. Kidney fire is the fire which may preserve life. If we

are sure to keep this fire going, we may be ascertain that the life of

the patient can be extended. If our kidney fire are strong and working

properly, I hope all Qi will be self-regulated. The Qi of kidney

nourishes the brain " Jing, the bone marrow " . This Qi must be very

strong to ascend its Jing to the brain " average Qi will not ascend

its Jing to the brain against the gravity energy " .

This case, I must make sure the kidney fire must be on all times to

presevere the life of the patient. If we sedate the heat, wind, phlegm

or fire, how can the patient survive if his energy getting depleted so

quickly " everything against him " .

I hope some of us will give me an idea why the dizziness reappear,

so we all together will work with this problem. Help me, please

!!!!!!!! What is the next step ?

Hi everybody,

If someone has been followed this condition with me, here, I share

my views with my follow up.

I have been observed this dizziness condition ( my step father ) and

it has been going well for at least 10 days, there was one day

relapsed of dizziness. After that he ( my step father ) is going

strong. I came over and took him to shopping almost daily. He does his

regular activities fine.

I asked him whether he wanted some more herbs so I would buy some

more. He refused and answered : There is no problem with me now.I do

not think I should take any. Do not worry ! Those herbs did not do any

good. I am just getting better by myself, you see?

I do not know if anyone of us has experienced this. Patients do not

remember of their past illness and refusing to give us credit. THey

always claim that their illness spontaneously heal them. This is the

case I have seen too many times and this happened in my family a few

times. This is not a problem. The problem is that if our patients are

not improving, we will hear a lot of bad mouth and the rumor will

spread out quickly with exaggeration.

Anyway, I thought I might need some help from one of us for treating

this condition. I guest do not need it at this time for my step father

refused to take herbs or advice........ Eventhough I told him I do not

have time to take care of him, he must take care of himself. I do have

things to take care of my own. I can't babysit him everyday. He'd just

ignored my feeling.
