Guest guest
Why not try a massage chair? Seems more comfortable to me than laying prone for 30 minutes on a massage table. Doesn't Kiiko M. style go from front to back to front tx ? Guest guest
I have an super overweight patient who can't lie prone. I just have him sit in a chair next to the table and lean onto the table with his arms as a pillow. Guest guest
Okay. I do this all the time. What I do when I put back Shu points in, is have the patient sit up on the table (facing the window - or the nicer part of the room) Females put a sheet around their neck, covering the chest area and I can still go under the sheet in the back near the neck to count the vertebrae. I mark them (yes I still do that on the back), circle the point, insert the needles - metal, no guide tube (unless sensitive patient), insert lightly, hanging needles. When I place all needles (HT last for Aggressive Energy), I ask the patient to lie on their side. They are usually very comfortable like that. To keep them warm, you can use a blanket from waist below or a mylar sheet. The method Kelvin described, we use to use in the clinic with almost every patient. I still use this when I am doing Gua Sha on the back. You can have them lean over a pillow too, to raise them up a little for comfort - when they are resting. Guest guest
Hi John, When I have patients are uncomfortable in a prone position, I have them lie on their sides to treat the hua tuo jia ji points. Works just great. Peace, Liz - Hugo Ramiro Chinese Medicine Wednesday, March 21, 2007 12:03 AM Re: Table technique Yup will buy one soon. Guest guest
There are also a variety of bolstering systems available for people who aren't comfortable prone which I have found useful, but they are difficult to manipulate in the course of treatment and can be quite expensive. I've used massage chairs especially for neck and shoulder issues, they are considerably superior to the lean-on-the-table method, which tends to scrunch up a lot of stuff in the neck and shoulders. With a chair it is almost possible to induce a little traction through the neck by tilting the face rest forward and setting it a little high.
